Ouch! At least you didn't have a connection to make, huh?
Since 2001, we drive if we can at all do it (a 14-hr trip to Texas for my sister's wedding, done in one shot; two 17-hr trips to DC, broken up by a sleepover in a motel). The stress and wasted time on either end of a trip are not worth it!
Driving just doesn't work the same way in Europe, roads aren't as direct generally, nor is it culturally the same. Plus, can't drive to Cyprus from England, a bit too much water in the way! Funny thing is I used to drive all the time in Canada, would think nothing of a 12 hour drive between Calgary and Vancouver for a weekend. TB

Too true. Too true.
The standard airlines are getting worse and worse as well. American Airlines shamelessly flew us from London to Miami without any movies! (No, the video wasn't broken b/c they were showing some rather disappointing inflight entertainment: Everyone Loves Raymond. NO! I don't!
I once had a flight to Singapore with no inflight entertainment. I had managed to put my book down and forget it in the lounge. It was a verrrrry long flight. TB

You now need a holiday to recover from your holiday.
Vodka works.
I have flown out charter with Jax and the gymnasts to Eastern Germany, Austria, Lithuania, Holland etc etc.
I have sat next to a very fat transvestite, a very smelly old woman (who was declared dead on arrival in Lithuania), a man handcuffed to the bloke in the next seat, an Arab who kept playing with himself and a German who claimed to be Hitler's second cousin twice removed.
Vodka works. Lots and lots of it.
Yeah, problem with charters is you keep having to pay for more vodka... I must confess I haven't sat next to a dead woman yet, nor Hitlers cousin, but I had a very amusing flight with a not very happy circus clown (not in costume unfortunately), a man who claimed to be a billionaire (and acording to google he was too, if he was who he said he was), and I confess I must have sat next to the same Arab. Seems like traveling is getting harder and harder!
To get home to Montana, I'm going to have to take four flights and spend almost 20hours in transit with a poor cat! All that just to get to a state in my own damn country! Argggg
Four Flights? From NY? That's madness that is. At least in Europe everything's direct (well direct from London anyway). Its just not always convenient depending on who you're flying with. TB
