A rare example of your Transatlanticism, Boy. "Lucked out" has exactly the opposite meaning to me that it does to you!
Sounds a splendid concert - and I think it's a pity that music has been so downgraded, mostly through cost, in most state schools. And classical music is thought of as elitist and uncool on the whole, and not just by kids.
You mean as in bad luck instead of good? Interesting, hadn't heard it used in that context before. Will update the mental library.
It was a good concert, very appropriate for kids, tho the narrator sometimes rambled a bit too much. Our society does seem to be heading on a least common denominator heading. Bread and circuses deemed vital, high culture not. The thing is its all part of opening minds. Sorry, I'm ranting again. TB

I used to love those field trips to the symphony when I was a kid.
I got taken a lot when I was a kid, and loved it too. TB

...yet in school I remember even white middle classers rejecting classical music until way into their twenties when the technicalities of conquering a tricky but aurally impressive piece on their instruments then became "cool"... it is rare for very young (under 10s) fall in love with classical, whatever their background, sadly
Oh, I think the middle class kids could have cared less about being there. It was that the parents being middle class almost solely that bothered me. Just another re-inforcement of the class devide in this country. TB

What a delightful little lecture you received from your budding neurosurgeon. How old is she?
My children (21, 18, 14) were started young on music of all sorts, and they all love the symphony (among all sorts of music!). We have a family dream of booking a box at the National Arts Centre for a series one year. Who knows? One year, we might just manage it!
She's four so it was particularly delightful. The two boys take music and singing lessons so i hope to encourage the love your kids clearly have. TB
