Lots of good stuff here. Interesting that the most powerful books are often the ones more likely to be misinterpreted.
On a completely separate note, I just recently was introduced to the comic Ricky Gervais (I'm sure he's much more well known in the UK!). He's funny, but there's discomfort, too, in the way he crafts his routine. Anyway, he does a bit on Nietzsche and Hitler.
Gervais is a very uncomfortable comic. Have you seen his show "The Office"? Cringeworthy and so very very true at the same time. He amplifies the worst you see in people. V Funny (most of the time)... TB

Heavy (and dry!?!) reading, but heady stuff. I'm much more prone to literature with a message (Brothers Karamazov being my favourite) than actual political / philosophical tomes.
Oddly enough, so am I! I didn't enjoy some of these books, Nietzsche I struggled and fought with. The criteria was books that changed my life, made me think differently. Books I love would be a very different list! TB

Gervais is behind *The Office*? Ahhhhh. I see. I mean, I understand. I have heard lots of good stuff about *The Office*, and I know there is a US version, which is said to be nowhere near as good, but, as it is a TV show, I've never seen it. I think I may put it on the Netflix queue now...
Thanks!
Definitely worth watching the UK version. It can be painfully funny sometimes, stereotypes taken to extremes, but really worth it. TB

Stranger in a Strange Land was going to be made into a movie starring David Bowie. In the event it was The Man Who Fell To Earth that got made.
Great book though.
I'd recommend Post Office by Charles Bokowski which was recommended to me.
The working mans lot in one book. Sad, funny and worryingly apt to so many places of work today.
Been there and read it, a seriously thinking book. TB

Well, while I'd like to say I'm deep and all that, I guess the books that have moved me the most are those that have ultimately captured my imagination rather than fueled my philosophical side. One is the sci-fi adventure, The Snow Queen. Another is part of a series about North American cultures, The People of the River. And my most current favorite definitely has to be, The Time Travelers Wife. That one had me in tears!
I didn't say move, but changed my life. Books that made me rethink. Books that moved me emotionally are a very different list. I'd also say I'm not particularly deep, I just think a lot.
You're the second person to recommend the Time Travelers Wife, must pick it up. TB
