The Boy on Top

Gravatar Hee hee hee..I remember the first roasted guinea pig I saw in a market in Quito...I nearly threw up. Can't imagine eating a household pet, but those Ecuadorians sure do love them. (Actually, the first time I ate coriander was in Ecuador - it started a love affair that still rages.)

So you didn't actually try it? I did, frankly wasn't bad, but I'm a seriously devoted carnivore. I would agree about coriander though. My first experience of that herb was in Mexico. A plate of grilled shrimp, and a bowl of sour cream and coriander for dipping. I can taste it now... TB

Gravatar One of the animal groups that Heifer International offers for donation is a guinea pig pair. When I saw that, I remember thinking, "But they're so small! How can raising them for their fur be useful?" Silly me.

When you two talk about coriander, you're talking about the green leafy version (not the brown seeds) right? If so, that's what we call cilantro, and one of our favorite summer recipes is cilantro pesto. It's delish!

Nope, that are a meat, though they use the fur as well. Yes coriander = cilantro. Frnech name vs Spanish name for the same plant. TB

Gravatar My son's cats are 14 years old and have been with him his entire life. I dread the day that they pass on. He will be crushed. I am glad to hear that Tommy is on the mend. Cheers Boy!!

That will be much worse than a one year old Guinea Pig me thinks. Long may they live. TB

Gravatar Right. Here we use "cilantro" when you eat it in the leafy stage, and "coriander" for the brown seeds that are ground and used as a spice.

Huh! Nope, Coriander in England is the leafy bit as well as the ground seed. If I remember right we used the same word in Canada as well. TB

Gravatar Cilantro is the Spanish word for coriander.

Gravatar 'n you won't taste like chicken. I think. Another of our cats keeled over the other day. 21 years old so a good age. Jax is used to it now. She stepped over him in the hall and shouted up "Dad! Another dead one"

Human meat is one of the rare things I haven't tasted, and don't want to. I read once it tasted like pork, but have no real urge to test that one out. Good on Jax, death is one of those things that happens in life. TB
