The Boy on Top

Gravatar I have been fortunate. My son has never been more than an ocassional candy eater, and since he discovered the joy of basketball last year, he gets exercise regularly. He's a good kid, and it sounds as though yours are as well. Cheers!!

Good kids are a real pleasure, aren't they? TB

Gravatar You are right. I have seen the effects of sweets on my boys - they morph into monsters.

Why can't more parents be more responsible and SENSIBLE. I don't really understand why any parent would want to self-impose such punishment on themself.

Madness. They just let the kids rule the roost. And oh man are they paying dearly.

Too true. I just shake my head sometimes when I see some of the little helions people let their children turn into. Hell, they almost encourage it. We shall have to form the sensible parents league and get ourselves elected in charge of the world. TB

Gravatar The joys I am yet to experience! My 6 month old has stated to wean and (we do try and blend up a little of what we have for dinner) when he has pre-prepared baby food his favorite is basil, turnip & spinach. He only likes the really expensive stuff, which, to be honest smells quite good, unlike some of the mass produced much that you can buy for them.

IOt went wrong for us on Sunday at his babtism when somebody fed him some 'mr whippy' he was sick everywhere and then went in to a tantrum! A friend (without children) owned up and appologised profusly.....

There is research, which I can personally testitfy to, that a child's palate is developed between 6-12 months. The more flavours and eventually textures you can get them, the better. If they spit it out once, try again in a week's time, then at least one more time. Blending what you eat is good practice, but push the boat out and try sour and other strong flavours.

Mr Whippy sick... yuck... TB

Gravatar I can just say: ditto! The girls can eat more than their body weight in food, but they run around, play, and don't eat many processed foods.

Hallelula sister! Happy kids have full tummy's with good food and time to play. TB

Gravatar Heartwarming parental pride, Boy. I liked reading that.

I agree entirely about the additives. What I dislike more than sugar is 'no added sugar'. What, added artificial carcinogenic rubbish instead?

Squiffany has recently discovered the joys of chocolate. *sigh*

Gravatar I have to monitor the Mista's intake for precisely the same reasons.

Ehem, and I have no personal experience of this at all. Cough... TB

Gravatar My parents were strict about TV/computer too. One hour a day (except Sat morning cartoons, we could watch a little longer so they could sleep a little later, but as soon as they were up, we were shooed out of the house to play) No sugar in breakfast! Only healthy snacks, and all our desserts were homemade, cookies and cakes, sure, but homemade, and limited as a dessert after a healthy dinner!

Yeah, we do the Saturday morning thing to, parents needs that... ehem... sleep in time (not to put an unwelcome image in your mind)... Nope, no sugar in our house either. We don't make cookies much, but we do generally make one or two deserts a week. TB
