Do you get jetlag worse flying west-to-east than east-to-west? I always did, quite noticeably, flying different distances and starting at diferent times of day, but I could never think of a very satisfactory explanation.
Yes, West to East is definately worse, tho like you I couldn't say why. Wonder if anyone has a proper scientific reason? Must go take a look. TB

That wasn't very helpful jetlag info ["I just pinch myself" -- sheesh! ].
I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't a fised amount of politeness in the world, because you say the Chinese are learning customer service, and I've been noticing for the past couple of years how gosh darned rude people in the service industry have become.
I edited an economics paper recently that compared China and India and noted that China is surpassing India by leaps and bounds. They didn't put it as succinctly as you (the Chinese just want to WIN), but that was the gist of their message. The problem with that attitude is that things like citizen rights and the environment get shoved under the rug. And that is bad for the entire planet.
Yeah, sorry, but its what I do! No helpful alternative medicine or practical advice. I just stay awake...
Oh I could pontificate about China for days! Oddly enough I think China is starting to "get" human rights. I read some fascinating stuff about the next generation of party leaders. Many have been educated outside China, a few are suspected of having taken part in Tinamin Square protests. The expectation is for much further liberalisation. Not going to happen overnight though.
Its the environmental issues I'm more worried about. China does seem to have an attitude that its China's turn, and they'll worry about the consequences later. However, issues like water and even the poisening of their own people are making them wake up. It may not be as bleak as it feels at the moment. TB

The Old Pretenders FC like winning too. We're playing our first game of the season tomorrow. Unlike the Chinese I suspect we won't win.
Gotta have faith Mate. Then again, does the pint afters taste any different with the result? TB

I can remember jet lag hitting me like a ton of bricks between the eyes all of a sudden. Your trip seems to have evoked great memories for you. Glad you're back safely.
Thanks, it was a good trip. TB
