no, we can't keep giving treatment indefinitely, to anyone, but where to draw the line, let alone the border issues and nationality. I think - from what you've written - that the english side did all they could which was reasonable. As you say though, she probably will still die. Harshly I think that if she came to this country and tried to get student status, she could have tried a bit harder to learn the language to a more acceptable (to the college) level?
I doubt that's all there is to it, and so I doubt there's a black or white answer - it's sad and awful and difficult - If I were her friend in her country, I would try to do something to raise the money for her treatments

Which is a whole different issue. Individuals can act differently than our collective government. Government must be just, individuals can be compassionate. TB

My reaction has been much the same as yours. I think it's a compassionate compromise to offer to fund the treatment, if only for a time in her own country - where I daresay it is less expensive than in Britain in any case and less of a burden on the NHS. But on the other hand, a compromise is not enough for someone as ill as she is.
Its as good an outcome as could be expected from an impersonal directive as she fell under. TB

You see, this is the reason I read you blog. You're always seem to be right.......
When Wifey had her stroke in the States we had to pay. $80,000 She would have received care, but a third rate service if we'd had no money (or insurance...)
As you say, we can't cure the world.
Trust me when I say I know I am frequently and often wrong!
Did you not have travel insurance to cover her costs when it happened? The amount doesn't shock me, that sort of care is very very expensive. TB

Life's a bitch and then you die eh?
If humanity had a real comprehension of justice or even moral dignity she would be wherever she needed to be to get the best treatment available.
Sadly the world is run by humanity. Not even the better section.
She's history.
Mind you, so are all the old people who will die through a financial inability to keep themselves warm over the coming months.
Apart from being pissed again, I've lived too long.
Bah, you've barely scratched the surface of living 4D. You've just lived more than most.
Didn't you know our fine fine government had a tax benefit to help the poor benighted and cold elders of our society? I'm sure the statistics show no one dies of cold any more... TB
I shouldn't be a depressive really - I support Oldham Athletic for starters - but we really are a bunch of shites aren't we?

I like the line you've used in the comments, and I think it sums it up: Governments should act justly, individuals should act compassionately. In this case (of which I have not heard until just now), it seems the UK bent over backwards to be fair.
Compassion is a human trait, governments are not human, just designed by humans. Justice is the best we can hope for... TB
