The Boy on Top

Gravatar Sometimes, being a coper, managing with and overcoming inconvenience, can mean one is taken for granted.

One reaches a limit, however, and sometimes it's necessary to lay the law down. And demand (and get) rather more than one would have settled for originally.

Precisely, but it means blunted feelings and hard words in the mean time. Such is business... TB

Gravatar This morning I was given a presentation on a company I teach at, by the Quality Director.

They have just been given new production targets, by their major client, that involve increasing their output radicallyby a very close deadline...

So he held a team meeting until late last night to establish the feasibility of meeting the new quota on target. It is impossible and so he put together this presentation and ran it by me before actually delivering it to the client.

I asked a lot of questions, of course, because I am just Miss Curiousity in the flesh, and found out that all his current projects are on hold until this new one is met.

There will be, he said, chaos afterwards when he has to pick up everything again. And during all of this I thought about you...funny that...and your recent mayhem.

It's the same everywhere....demands get harder and more specific and something has to give.

I guess afterwards it's a matter of re-prioritising...must be so hard to do. You have my rueful sympathy.

Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts! It is hard to do, but that is why I have the job and get recompensed well. Still, doesn't leave enough time to be slothful... TB

Gravatar I'm new to the 'business world' As in I've been working in academic science until just last summer so I don't get this. I will never understand how companies can possibly ever get any thing done at all! It's ridiculous. They ask for something, then say 'oh but you can't do that, you need to go through all these stupid chanels until you are ready to pull your hair out.' ugh. While there are a lot of politics in science, at least you either have the results or not, and the more independent you are, the better. No need to hold meetings over every step.

Crossing my fingers to get out of the corporate world b/c my job is NOT interesting.

Gravatar I'm finally feeling competent in my new position ... but I wouldn't say it's 'interesting' ... it has it's moments.

Rats, an uninteresting job makes it harder to deal with the stresses. TB

Gravatar Get me a conservatory and you can move into my living room - but the cat beds stay

I'll see if I can get you into our facilities department. Either that or me and eighty of my lads are going to be camping out in your living room... TB

Gravatar Don't angry bears poop everywhere?
