Yes, our service works well for us and for the same reason. In fact, we sometimes don't bother to put a bin out one week, we don't throw away that much. Except newspapers, which are vastly heavy. Last Friday I had great difficulty in dragging it the 120 yards down the drive.
My daughter lives in a flat in Islington. She has weekly black bag collection.

whoops, I clicked too early. If she had to sort her rubbish, she and her neighbours would need daily collections, I should think. There's nowhere to put it but on the street.
That's what shocked me. What a horrid state of affairs. TB

We have recycling every two weeks, and trash pickup every week. It works for us, because we make an effort to minimize packing material and we, too, have two compost heaps going at any one time.
I wonder if cities couldn't significantly reduce their waste if all kitchens had grinder-disposals in the sinks (the thing that grinds up most of your vegetable waste before going down the drain).
It makes the transport of the waste easier, but then needs investment in sewage disposal to deal with the increased stuff flowing down the pipes. There's no easy fix for this, but it does have to be fixed! TB

We have trash pickup every 2 weeks; recycle and compost every week. The majority of people in this city are apartment-dwellers, but we manage to compost centrally (although it takes some getting used to) and it's incredible how much we've reduced our waste output.
It really does make a difference. We have a neighbour who doesn't compost and doesn't seem to care about recycling much. They fill two big wheely bins every two weeks, often with overflow bags. With the same size family (two adults, three kids) we produce less than one wheely bin. You really can make a difference without much effort. TB
