I don't know how much effort banks put into tracking down how it has happened, do you? It hasn't happened to me, and I'm quite careful, but one does take a fair bit on trust.
I'm going to chase and find out what they do. In some ways it should be easy because all the goods will have delivery addresses. Appearently even a pizza delivery was done. TB
Yikes! Good thing your bank has the fraud protection. We only have cards that protect us that way, but still.
I've never had to test if the protection works, but it seems to. Its a big swallow the bank has to take, so I'm hoping they either cancel the orders made or chase down the culprit or both. TB
This happened to me a while ago. I have now become paraniod about the use of my cards. I don't think that banks care too much as there was a higher level of PIN that could have been used and they plumped for the cheaper option !.
Sometimes the cost of the insurance is more than the cost of loss, so they may just eat what happens. Horrible though, it was a lot of money used up. TB

Yeees, they never hit the credit limit. Problem is they know that now, and clearly have enough details. That's a good reminder, I should put in a warning to the credit checking agencies. TB
That's very very scary. I like to imagine that I'm very careful with all of this stuff, as I'm an IT professional, but this sort of thing does happen. It's scary how good people are at getting these things nowadays.
Very scary stuff. I like to think I'm very careful with this sort of thing, as I'm an IT professional, but it really can happen to anyone. The attacks that they carry out are getting more and more sophisticated, and I think for everyone it's a matter of when and not if.
If they hacked my card they'd deposit a few quid in sympathy
