Good observations. I wrote a short story (science fiction) about a decade ago called "Be a Kathy Girl!" addressing exactly this issue of painfully unrealistic models of "superbeauty" being used to manipulate women into becoming self-loathing, compliant consumers. It ties in nicely with the theme of this blog entry.
