For my generation, it was Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction". We also thought we were headed for the end and our only hope was revolution and - like every generation before us - we believed that we could save the world.
We didn't.
Instead, we merely glamorized drugs, promiscuity and narcissism. We diminished the family and our communities. We made the world worse - not better. And now, we - or at least most of us - are getting old enough to recognize what we have wrought.
And like our parents before us, we see our offspring repeating the same old pattern.
viva la revolution!
up the rebels!
eve of destruction!
Armageddon!
no blood for oil!
anarchy!
We did not - nor will we - save the world. Neither will our children. Nor their children.

Salvation is from God and He works within the human heart. Work for justice? Of course, we must. But we must do so in such a way that we see justice as "under God". All other attempts at justice will simply fail. Period.
