I now have four kids, the oldest of which is 9, which does put me in the "seasoned veteran" chair compared to a family with their first newborn and the only advice I have for parents is "follow your instincts."

For three and a half years I listened to the advice "all children develop differently" before somebody finally told me that "it shouldn't be this hard, something is wrong here." Now I know that my three younger children are autistic and their actions make sense within that frame of reference (well, most of the time).

If you think something is wrong, pursue it, because in the end you'll kick yourself if something really is wrong and you didn't.
