I run and workout with my iPod all the time and as far as I know I can still hear and haven't been killed by a truck. I don't use the earbuds though. I use some Phillips Surround Sound thingies.

Let me know how you like the Bowflex. My brother got one too, but I'm afraid to get one because a lot of people spend the money and don't use it.
