I have just stumbled upon your blog and all I can say is... EXCELLENT!
Alex and Brett, I commend you on your willingness to stand for the truth. I commend you on, from what I have read, your Biblical perspective. I commend you on your perseverance and indeed strength of character!
But most of all, I give our great God all the praise for giving you the faith, perspective and perseverance that is leading you to a life of both stability and Biblical manhood which is rarely seen in these times!
I became a Christian earlier this year in March - age 19. Let me tell you that it is a most wonderful thing to have been saved before I did anything to both physically harm and before the days of my youth were gone.
What is more of a reality than living in bondage to Christ? As Spurgeon said to some skeptics after expounding the excellence of True Religion: "Blessed fiction! blessed dream! may I contrive to believe thee; may I always be so deluded if this is to be deluded and misled!"
In light of that, I was VERY pleased to see that there are still a remnant who hold to being radicals for Christ when you said: "Our world cannot last another generation of Christian young people who fit in," in your series "The Myth of Adolescence". Excellent. Excellent. EXCELLENT!
Ahh.. there is just so much I wish to write to you guys - especially regarding the joy I feel at finding rebels rebelling against a rebellious society and revolutionaries in a morally stagnant race. But I guess I will leave it there for now seeing its time for bed. I will be sure to stop by regularly and become involved as a revolutionary - and have already added myself to the Frappr map!
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Dave

Fantastic stuff...
David, welcome to the The Rebelution, your center for politically and socially incorrect, yet fundamentally and biblically accurate, news and thought provoking messages.
:-D
It's a nice place!
I'm sticking around, that's for sure...

I saw that the link to the Frappr map earlier today and I added myself. I had never heard of it before; it's a cool program!
I'm still feeling kind of like Dave up there ^, having just found this blog about a week ago. I'm always so excited about checking back here every day (okay sometimes a few times each day) even if there's not a new post. Amazing.

Added thought: Have you guys ever considered having a Rebelution messageboard, where fellow Rebelutionaries can discuss things, or just talk about stuff? After seeing all the Rebelutionaries on Frappr I thought it might be fun to get to know each other a little better.

That's kinda what the comment section is for, in it's own respect.
And yes, after a little looking, the coding of this program is briliant! Absolutely brilliant... The guys at frappr know their business, that's for sure.
David Heustis, my filmmaking friend, is delving into computer programming now. He's looking for ways to impliment tools into our filmmaking software.
Should be good fun!
God Bless!
~ John.
P.S. I too, check back three or four or even five times every day, just for my fascination with all things rebelution.
I'm blown away by Alex and Brett's talents with words, and their wisdom. Hopefully, with enough effort, I can almost be where you guys are at, a year from now.
That would be wonderful.
In the meantime, this P.S. is too lengthy. Have a good day!

David: Thanks so much for your kind words. We are so blessed that God is using us to motivate and encourage our generation. All glory to Christ! Also, understand that we need the help of our fellow rebelutionaries, including prayer, encouragement, instruction, rebuke, and some very simple "spread the word" type activities. =)

Brian: We are definitely excited to be part of the first wave of bloggers to use Frappr! We feel it is an excellent way to connect our readers and develop a sense of community.
We really appreciate your suggestion about an online forum. We will definitely consider that. Of course, as John pointed out, the comment section serves a forum-type purpose.
God bless!

For the record, Frappr uses the Google Maps API, which is free for any website to use.

Brett (and EVERYONE else!):
I found a particular book written by J. C. Ryle entitled "Thoughts for Young Men" to be incredibly humbling. I can honestly say that it has contibuted greatly to my spiritual growth over the past few months since I was saved.
Has anyone here read it? If not... and even if you do not fit the description of a "young man", I would still suggest reading it! The title is a bit misleading. The principles and exhortation that he gives are suitable for all people. Additionally, it acts as a source of encouragement, instruction and rebuke - as you mentioned, Brett.
Here is the link to the book online: http://www.gracegems.org/BOOKS/

Hello Gentlemen! This is Hannah in Ohio. I found your blog from Doug Phillips when you were covering the Film Festival.
I've looked around and read some of your previous series of posts; what can I say except that I'm very impressed. Not many guys your age (and beyond), even in homeschool circles, have the character, ambition, and desire to really go out and "do hard things". Actually embracing that philosophy, and putting it into action is wonderfully amazing and challenging to me.
I'm 19 (does that sound old or is it just my imagination?), and wish now that I would have used the years behind me a bit more wisely. While I have regrets, I believe God works all things together for good, and He's still molding my life. I have a precious few years left to take advantage of yet. Your blog is another helpful arrow sign along the road, and I believe the Lord will continue to use it to challenge and inspire not only me, but many others. I've linked to you on my personal blog to help spread the word.
It suddenly hit me while browsing your bio again that you are the sons of Greg & Sono Harris, and brothers of Josh Harris. Wow - no wonder! Somehow I missed that before. I was going to say, you must have some wonderful, diligent parents to have become the young men you are today, by God's grace. I wouldn't be where I am had it not been for the Godly parents the Lord has blessed me with.
I encourage you to stay the course and keep up the good, hard work! I know the Lord will bless you richly as you put Him first.
Sincerely in Christ,
Hannah :-)
P.S. Do you have any sisters, or is your mom the loner there?

David, I have also read "Thoughts for Young Men," as well as completed the study guide thing that goes along with it. Definitely an excellent resource! I found it very helpful and encouraging in many areas.
Do you guys have any other favorites? John Piper's "Don't Waste Your Life" and Louie Giglio's "i am not but i know I AM" are two of my more recent favorites (well, sort of recent). The book that has most recently changed my life (besides the Bible, of course) is C. J. Mahaney's new book, "Humility: True Greatness." It is AMAZING.

I "accidentally" came to your site a week or two ago. I can't say what a blessing it (at the blogs you linked to) have been to me. My family and I are soon leaving a church we have attended for nine years, and during a time when I feel like we are completely alone in our standards, it is wonderful to read of other TEENAGERS who have strong standards as well. Thanks!

Of the few blogs I've visited, this is certainly the best. Perhaps because its unique nature. You could probably call it an online newspaper rather than a blog, and an excellent one at that!
Changing subjects, this Frappr technology is very neat. I'm sure it could be a great tool for networking. It's also interesting to see how many people live near your area.
I'd like to join the others in thanking you, Alex and Brett, for the work you put in to this great site.

Brian, good to hear that good old Ryle's books are still being used mightily! Ryle has some real solid teaching.
I am reading "The Knowledge of the Holy" by A.W. Tozer at the moment. I can see it becoming one of my favourites! Anyone read it?
Just as a side note (to echo Brian) - I also would really like a message board. It seems as though the comments pages are generally short lived since they are "bumped down" continually. A message board would also be great to build eachother up, encourage eachother and simply relate to people who are on the same level as us !

I'm reading the Knowlege of the Holy too! It's so theologically packed, it's been slow going--but SO GOOD. :-)

Hannah, I agree! It is definately slow going! There is a certain sincerity with which Tozer writes. He reminds me very much of Al Martin.
I especially appreciate the prayers that he makes before each new chapter, don't you? I actually find myself reading them over, praying them for myself!
What a strange coincidence to be reading the same book at the same time!
God bless,
Dave

I got the link to your site through a debate website, and it is very encouraging to read everything you've posted. Not only is the truth you post about a blessing, but what an encouragement to simply have discovered more [rare] teens my age who have a real heart for God! Keep up the good work! :)

He definately writes from his heart. It's obvious he belives wholeheartedly what he writes about, rather than some who just spout off their head knowledge. Maybe that's what makes it slow for me, as it's easier to fly along an arguement for something than to plumb the depths of a soul on a page.
Who's Al Martin? I've never heard of him before.
Blessings!

True, true!
Al Martin is the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church of Montville, NJ. He is without a doubt a very godly man. He speaks with much earnestness - and holds to the Truth very strictly. You can check out his church's website here: http://www.tbcnj.org/ And if you would like to browse some of his sermons in a more maneagable format than the church website, then go here: http://www.sermonaudio.com/searc...5EN%2E%
5EMartin
I found his one sermon entitled "Perseverance in a Lawless Age" ( http://www.sermonaudio.com/
sermo...nID=12240219737 ) particularly powerful. It is also very applicable to the general theme/idea of a Rebelutionary!
Are there any other books that you would suggest?
God bless!

hey dave-
i'm not sure if that was a question for anyone, but i would very much like to throw in a suggestion as far as books are concerned. "Humility" by C.J. Mahaney. i must admit i haven't read it yet(but will as time allows!), but i have heard wonderful things about it from several people whose recommenda- tions i would trust and value(including mr. harris).
in Christ,
Sarah

Huh, I'll have to get it... "Humility". That's really a book I could use. :-
*sigh*
Every book I read tends to let me know just how dumb I can be sometimes. It gets to the point where it is painful to read!
Haha.
Well, as for the forum thing, I'll be setting up a forum for young people, but it will mostly be directed towards filmmaking.
In fact, hopefully an entire site dedicated to the technical aspects of Christian filmmaking. IT should be helpful to those who want straight information about budget-conscious filmmaking. I hope. Consider this a shameless plug. ;-)
L8r!
In Christ, John.

Sarah- That's really funny! I was planning on gettting Humility by C.J. this Sunday after church! I, too, have heard great things about it.
Dave--Some other books I've enjoyed are:
Knowing God by Piper
The Cross-Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney
In the Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot (a biography of Jim Elliot, based on his journals)
Answers for Difficult Days by David Quine (a Bible study for forming a biblical worldview, available from Cornerstone Curriculum)
Hmm....I'm blanking on any others. Check out Sovereign Grace Ministries www.sovereigngraceministries.org They have some great books there too.
I'll check out that sermon. Sound like good stuff!
John--:-) I know what you mean! But isn't it a great opportunity for the Spirit to work? It's almost a joy to be convicted, because you get sanctified by it, and that's really cool (but only afterwards...LOL!)
Blessings,
hannah |
