If only for the fact that you're quoting the first book that Dad read allowed to me, I love this post.
I also love that book. The entire series is good, but that book is definitely one of my favorites. I've been considering doing an adaptation for the screen when I get the talent base to do it.
But also, the post was great! I love that verse from Jeremiah you quoted. It's a great selection, and very fitting for this post!

Ha, I miswrote something. I said, 'that Dad read allowed to me'.
I meant 'aloud'.
It must have been late. :P

In a nod of acknowledgement to the previous post, I too heard Little Britches when i was just a little kid. A film adaptation would be fantastic!
I think it is incredibly important that young people realize that they are making choices that affect their entire lives, and the lives of others. The sins of our generation go beyond the sins of commission and include the sins of omission. Lazy attitudes toward life, passive thoughts on relationships and money, and the total waste of their education, spent learning mere facts, and not how to apply them in real life situations.
I think parents are just as much to blame in this breakdown, and this message needs to get out to parents just as it does to young people. While we challenge our peers, we need more men and women challenging parents to help and facilitize their children's growth spiritually and functionally. I would like to see Gregg start a blog of rebelution for parents ;)
Great post, Brett

Wow. Very convicting. It made me start thinking about my own "character house", and how well it will stand up in trials. I'm going to strive to make it stronger. Thank you for this excellent post!

Eddie: Well, The Rebelution Tour is intended to do precisely that: challenge teens and parents. That's why our dad is going to be speaking at the conference, and why parents are so strongly encouraged to attend. Your point is right on.

Excellent post!
I would argue that sometimes character IS created in the midst of crisis or hardship, but I totally agree that is it incredibly important to "build your character house" now to save yourself the pain of "rebuilding" later on.

Pastor Richard Bacon, who's church we are now attending, said that every choice we make, eliminates 50 percent of the choices we could have made in another direction.
As we make decisions in life, we're gradually cutting down the number we will be able to make, and eventually certain things become routine. Making the right choices now will give us the right routines later. Let's build a character house, not tear it down.
God Bless!

I love that book! We read it aloud as a family last summer and that passage was one of my favorites.
Thanks for the exhortation, Brett. This blog have been very encouraging to me over the last few months that I've been reading. Keep up the great work!
btw, y'all should have a conference in Atlanta. . .I know lots of people who would come to one! :)
