And here I was, finally about to get some homework done...

Ah well, I'm off to brainstorm! I love the new idea. Reader participation is excellent.

Brian, this can wait a bit... You have a week and half. Be sure you don't slack on your other responsibilities.

At the same time, we're glad you like the idea. We're really excited about it ourselves.

great idea!! will do....:-)

Alex, I was joking, mostly ;)

As much as I love The Rebelution, I am aware that I have to be careful with my time. Though I admit I am often guilty of using blogging as a major procrastination tool. I'm working on that. ;)

Great idea!

Ya Brian I know what you mean, I find my self reading the Rebelution's posts about responsibility and then I realize I can't finish it, but gotta go do homework, and actually be responsible.

The youth of today also need to challenge themselves physically. Run a 5 Km or a 10 Km or a 1/2 marathon or heck a full marathon. That takes commitment.

Good site.

Marathon?

More power to ya, but I won't be running any marathons any time soon, like in this life. ;)

Good idea!

Hey guys,
Dang! I'm going to be out of town! I have that tournament, we leave on Wednesday and get back on Sunday. And you know how the week before the tourney goes...preparing and printing evidence, packing, and all that jazz. So I do hope you can do it again, and my apologies. :(

God bless you guys! :)

I started to type up a response in the comment box here, and I found that I was getting far too long-winded for the space alotted. Thus, you can find my response over at my blog.

Maneuvering can be a little complex at times, but to sum it up, if you click on "blog" in the left menu, it brings up a sub-menu. If you then click on "read.it", you will be taken to a page with this week's blog entries on it. My response is the second entry on the page. Next week (or when I get around to it, really) those entries will be archived to the Jan.06 page.

Just.. thought you'd like to know. *blink*

Have a wonderful day!

Oh, and ... you have to click on the text on the index page to get to the main part of the website. I really need to simplify everything on there one of these days...

Um... I have a few questions. Is there a specific topic the quote has to be on or anything? And does it have to be a quote that a teen says, or just anybody.

~Nella

Great, Hannah... I'd been to your site before, so I'd figured out the navigation. Good job!

Nella: Edit: I misunderstood your question. Brett answers below.

Everyone: I think I'm going to change the guidelines a bit... I don't want people reading other people's responses and getting ideas. So how about everyone just email them to us (rebelution [dot] blogspot [at] gmail [dot] com) from now on? You can still discuss in here (the comments section), but actually, it would be even better if you did so with your parents.

Pardon me whilst I eye everyone suspiciously and proceed to leave my entry up in my blog anyway, and trust that no one plans to steal my points? Heheh.

If you'd rather that I take it down at this point in time, Alex, I can - but if you don't mind it staying up, then neither do I.

Nella: I think Alex misunderstood your question. You were asking about the guidelines for submitting a quotation, correct? In that case, the quotation can be about anything, from anyone, provided that it provides an insight or makes a point that you think would be beneficial to our readers. A good way to figure that out is whether the quote really speaks to you in some way.

It should be fine, Hannah. I trust our readers not to cheat.

Marshall: That's too bad. But we understand how it is getting ready for a tournament. You apply yourself and get all you can out of debate and speech. We all know those are incredibly valuable skills to develop.

And don't worry. We'll be having more of these competitions. There's always next time.

okay guys...is Heer saying that the youth movements have failed BECAUSE they didn't have their fathers involved, or is it just a coincidence that they failed, and oh, by the way, the dads weren't involved. ? just trying to wrap my mind around this...

I don't think that he's talking about the involvement of parents when he speaks of "fathers". Biblically speaking, the father is the head, the *authority* figure, of the family. By rebelling against the "fathers" they were rebelling against authority at a larger scale, and vice versa.

Anyone agree, or am I just reading too much into this? After all, I've never read the book. Perhaps I should look into whether or not I can find a secondhand copy on B&N.

hannah and Hannah: Heer describes the movements as a son rising up against his natural (biological), political, or spiritual father-figure. His focus is on the one generation (the youth) rising up against the previous (or older) generation. The older generation would usually be the generation of the young people's parents.

hannah: I don't think that was specifically what Professor Heer had in mind, but I think you may be on to something. That would definitely play a part, especially if you think that's an area where the Rebelution is different from most youth movements.

Hannah: I do believe the book is available at certain places online... But I'd caution you — I had to cut out certain pages. =P Really, I don't think getting the book is necessary for responding to the specific quotes.

ahh! too many girls that go by H-A-N-N-A-H! I'm going by Jacqui now...it's too confusing otherwise!
===============================
Thanks, Alex. That helped.

Okay, thanks for explaining, Brett!! I must have read the post in a hurry because now that I have reread it I understand the whole thing much better.

~Nella

I think that Malachi 4:6 is essentially what Jesus is all about--reconciling the hearts of the children with the Father. And that the broad "turning the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers...” is a reflection of that. Furthermore, the enemies constant efforts to have fathers abort their sons, and sons reject their father's is a reflection of the opposite of that.

Ok I don't know if that makes sense, I just thought of it.

What do you think?

Daniel

That's good, Daniel. It makes sense... Think you're up to expounding that thought to answer the question we posed?

I appreciate all of the discussion. You have a great idea going. Thank you for doing such a good job. The Rebelution is now one of my favorite places to read while on the internet.
