No surprise to see the Saturday show storming back now that there's no football clash to contend with.
3.9m peaking at 4.7m from Tuesday was sensational though. I wonder if there's any correlation in the ratings (most likely the peak ratings) and the amount up for grabs (the peak offer would be more relevant than the prize won here, I think) - to see if people are tuning in mid-episode if it looks like it's going to be a big-money corker of a show, something that was certainly true of Tuesday's show. Mind you, it was also true of yesterday's.

Incidently, it's still the case that all wins above £27,500 have been on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (and all above £50k have been on Thursdays and Fridays)
Noel thinks we've been due a game like that for quite a while. I disagree, based on Mister Al's 150 year assessment.

Ah right, sorry. I assumed it said "PEGGY MITCHELL, Eastenders" from the way you were saying!
I think the £250,000 can and will be won, but funnily enough it will happen on a board which starts off quite weak and becomes strong, rather than being strong from the off.

On condition that at least one big safety net stays all the way through to make gambling worth considering, I think I'll agree with that. I'm thinking of Arlette's game as a good example here - a merely ordinary start, but both six-figure values survived to the final eight.
That, or the Banker does what he did to Garvan.

To say the top prize absolutely won't go just isn't fair - it's been and gone several times in the French show, and that's an even bigger one!

But €500k isn't much more than £250k, and it's actually less if, as in Italy, it's taxed (do they tax game show winnings in France?).
And they have two big safety nets - €250k, and the joker (usually €220k). The £250k on our version is really quite isolated.

The Joker on the French version can be any amount it depends on the number of correct answers. One episode I've recently seen only had the Joker at £130,000 (13 correct).

Parish notices first. Lisa, the new player (right side, ninth from the board) opened the final box. Lucy opened the £100,000. I won't be live-commenting for the next two Saturdays, but will put up an after-the-game recap the following day.
17 -- £4100 -- £9600 -- £19,000
Offer £7500, 46th percentile.
Another very strong opening results in a near-median offer.
14 -- £7100 -- £16,000 -- £26,000
Offer £15,000, 49th percentile.
Following the protocol the bank's established over the last few days. It's a bit like the West Indies' tactics when rain's in the air - play the normal game, and pray for rain.
11 -- £15,000 -- £26,000 -- £42,000
Offer £31,000, 58th percentile.
"Calm down, dear, it's only a game show." We're in uncharted territory here. To spike the cricket analogy, the weather is set fair for the rest of the day. The top eight remain. We are guaranteed two values in five figures or more at the deal-of-5. KP was right that the only reason to walk would be a player whose utility curve took a massive step up at £30,000. On a normal board, mine says to deal at £28,000. But no.
08 -- £30,000 -- £43,000 -- £62,000
Offer £57,000, 61st percentile.
We've reached the point where it's a gamble to play on. Take out the big one and two of the bottom three and she'll get a bit more. Leave the big one and she'll go up, unless she takes out two of the top four.
05 -- £33,000 -- £57,000 -- £76,000
Offer £84,000, 70th percentile.
Wow. Reverting to the mean, a sign of sheer panic and desperation.
£21,000 for a 10/50 split is very mean.
Well, what can we conclude from this game? Brenda was right not to deal at £7500. And, when faced with a once-in-a-blue-moon scenario, the bank has no idea what to do. Does the bank know what to do in a once-a-year scenario? Even a once-in-two-months game?
For those who asked, the board going into Act III is up on my humble site.

Wow, what a game. I was literally screaming with delight watching the More 4 repeat and also frantically trying to work out the odds during the second break (but only had a pen and paper and no calculator handy).
I knew it would be posted on here though.
I thought that Peter's comment about working out how much £57,000 would be worth as post-taxed wages was one of the best pieces of advice I've heard. Equating that amount of money with about 4-5 years worth of wages (I think Peter said it was worth £70-£80K pre-tax and I'm guessing as a GP receptions she's on about £15K a year).

It would be £90K if you wanted to take £57K away in one year.
Working for the NHS myself, I have a fair idea of the kind of wages receptionists would get (I'm a clerical office) and it would be just about 5 years take-home wages for a full time worker.

> Noel thinks we've been due a game like that for quite a while. I disagree, based on Mister Al's 150 year assessment.
Well, I based that on 230 shows per year (since the current commission is for 230 shows). Having thought about it a little more I think that it's more realistic to assume 300 shows per year, which would mean we'd expect to see it once every 118 years.
Mind you, I'd still describe 118 years as "quite a while"...

Amidst all the fuss, it's worth noting that this is the second biggest win in DoND history, £3k more than Mally's £54k but still less than half of Jennifer's £120k.

Tax rates vary, up to 40%. But there are other taxes, National Insurance. This is 9 or 10% (can't remember whether there is a cap on NI - long time since earnt more than basic wage!)
General Rule think 25% up to 20k, 30% up to 35k, 35-40% or more above that

The five values Brenda finished with were the same five that Irene removed in her first round of her train wreck game.
