On the commentary team: KP.

Surely we'll get a red value in the box.

Nice pause in the intro speech.

And away we go for Episode 27.

I'll be on it as well, but focussing on the balance and continueing to try and figure out how to predict offers using a combination of that and the fair deal :)

Andy K is playing. I thought he was quite good on contestant's row, unless that was the other Andy.

And we have "I'll give you the money myself" Andy K.

The K is for Kelly. He's from Rochdale, and he's a 'Heritage Lottery Development Officer' apparently. 'WHAT?' says Noel... and I thought he was going to go into a right-wing rant. But he doesn't, instead joking that he's a gambler.

His tactic is simple: 'I'm not playing the boxes, I'm playing the Banker'.

...He sounds like he should be on our commentary team...

Andy was the player who gave away £200 to Raj, and he's fuming at the offers he got. Everyone's on his side now.

Incidentally, he had a point - the £200 was the only offer above the FD he got all game, though one offer was close.

He has Box 22.

Box 15 (Leigh): £250,000!

Box 5 (Elaine): £50. He said that right after the £250k went!
Box 12 (James): £1,000.
Box 14 (Jo): £5! 'That's better... much better!'
Noel says the £1k might as well be considered blue.
Box 8 (Andy B, new guy): £250.

The analysis: 'The big one's gone, but the others are absolute belters.'

Mean: £3,000. Mean: £18,491.86. FD: £8,368.91.

The offer is apparently high.

£5,000! It is!

Good recovery from a disasterous start, I think.

Absolute Balance = 3
Weaver's Figures = 8/17; -1

Even considering.

Opening offer £5k. That's bloody impressive for a first offer.

'He could have pushed 6 [grand]' jokes Andy.

Andy is really up for this. Is he going to be another Madie?

'Eight below, seven above' he says. 'There's at least two more deals there'. He's right on that front if he keeps more than one of the values above £35k.

No deal.

Box 16 (Sara): £100. That sends the FD back above the start value.
Box 11 (Karen): £5,000. Yet another red from Karen, but not bad.
Box 17 (John): Break time.

Absolute balance is 4, Weaver's figures are 8/15; -1 still.

Considering the first box this is about as good a board as can be expected.

Time for another 'Celebrity Lookalike', perhaps?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wiki...en/a/ab/ Rtd.jpg

...He does quite look like RTD. But to be honest RTD's most recognisable feature is his absolutely fabulous voice, so I'm not at all embarrassed for not seeing the similarity on instinct there :)

'A very very different show - it's Andy's show and he can do what he wants. And he's come in with a very aggressive attitude'.

Did Noel just say he intends to beat the banker then eat the banker?

Box 17 - £3,000. That'll do.

The offer - £10,000. The second highest at this stage, behind Trevor.

Absolute Balance at 2
Weaver's Figures 8/14, -1

Without that -1 spin he'd have as good balance figures at this stage as the last time.

...Offer at £10,000 is just about the FD amount of £10,284. That's insane for this stage of the game.

Despite being almost on the FD, it's a No Deal.

Box 6 (Mary-Ann): £15,000. 'Fine'.
Box 9 (Audrey): 10p!
Box 21: £20,000. 'It IS low' for this board, says Noel!

Mouthed 1p but got £20,000 there.

FD's gone up, Weaver's figures is at 6/11; -1. Absolute Balance is at 1. FD is at £11,034.

Offer above FD coming up I think.

'I know what I'd offer'. £9,000.

It'll be above that.

He's taking this personally. This is the one-on-one battle with the Banker we've been waiting for.

The offer is £15,000.

...Way above FD there. £15k offer.

He thinks that's near the upper bound.

He promises to leave right now if he gets £25,000.

And the Banker rings again!

No Deal from the BANKER there. This is great stuff.

The banker says 'No Deal'. LOL!

And this is hysterical. 'He said No Deal'.

Which is what Andy is going to do now.

'Don't let this get so personal that you don't consider what you could do with £15,000' says Noel.

No deal.

Remind me never to play poker against this man.

Box 1 (Geoff): £500.
'Two more and we get another exchange between the giants'.
Box 19 (Irene): £50,000! 'AAGH!' goes Noel. 'Two biggest are still there'.
'Who wants to do it?'
Eddie. Box 10. Break time.

Oh, to continue with the Doctor Who references, his physical appearance may be similar to RTD, but his vocal patterns and attitude is far more reminiscent of Christopher Eccleston's ninth doctor...

Absolute Balance at -5
Weaver's figures 5/9; -2

Still fairly evenly balanced, I'd say, which is reflected in the FD being about what it started as.

Though the balance reflections would indicate that at the moment we're going to be looking at a slightly below FD offer, I think.

...Course, that changes at any other box being drawn other than the £10000 and possably the £750.

this sounds like a really personal battle today..

'Every show is different, every player is different...'

And Noel hypes the 'pugilist' Andy.

Eddie has £10,000. And Andy goes crazy!

£10,000 coming up. As I said, if it's £10k or £750 nothing changes that's actually significant.

£9,000. That's a great trick.

...Slightly more below FD than I expected, I see.

Noel prophesises that Andy could be left fighting with the Banker on a 1p/50p decision.

Andy is insulted given the strong board. No deal.

Box 7 (Chris): £1!
Box 18 (Jason): 1p! And he's won more than Raj.

Box 3 (Hayley): £75,000!

Absolute balance of 1
Weaver's Figures at 3/5; -3

...Strangely it's a better board than the statistics (especially the FD) seem to indicate, I think.

Well, this is fabulous stuff. Sticking at £9,000, perhaps? FD is only £11,430.44.

'He really wants you to go, but he really wants to be the victor'.

The offer... is... £20,000.

As I said. £20,000 from the Banker is the lowest he can offer with that board, apparantly.

This is quite a fabulous psychological battle.

Noel knows it.

'I tell you, Raj would have liked 20 grand yesterday...'

There's a 40% chance of keeping the £100,000 in play. That would at least double the offer. There is a 30% chance of being left with two blues.

Stats of loosing both bigger is at... What... 3/10? Stats of keeping them both in 1/10 I think.

He's smiling. DEAL!

Mmm... Debatable if that was statistically valid, I think...

...He laps the studio after eliminating £100k and £35k in succession. This guy's great.

Proveout time.

Box 20 (Kai): £100,000! And he turns to the crowd and raises his arms in celebration.
Box 4: £35,000! 'YESSSSS!' And he runs around the studio in delight.
'And you know what the banker must be thinking...'
Box 13 (Rita): 50p. Who cares?

£300 offer from the 10 vs 750.

He had 750. Which either may as well be a red or the 1000 may as well be a blue, depending on your view of the board.

And £10,000 given away in the irrelevant bit to Yvonne Schiling.

It should be noted that depending on how you read that board could have taken you either way with the £20,000 offer. FD said Deal. Balance said the FD should be about right (if I'm reading this correctly), gut instinct said "There's a 70% chance of keeping either red, which should mean the offer isn't lowering too badly.". The other gut instinct said "Gambling 20k for 100k is odds on, so may as well play it safe."

We need to come up with a better way of reading that sort of board statistically, I think.

This guy was the first guy to win £3,000 on the daytime People Versus, if I'm not mistaken.

it sounded like a really interesting game...the ones where the contestant actually tries to beat the banker rather than try to avoid big boxes seem to work better...

This one was great TV because Andy was such a crazy personality. Some people seemed to hate him - one person who was talking to me during the episode was begging him to do badly and was really quite insulting. But I personally thought he made absolutely fabulous TV. And the lap of honour was one of the best moments of the series so far, second only to Jennifer finding she turned down £750 in my book.

Blimey O Reilly
you guys are well into this!
Great souveniour from the show this site!
Almost as gripping as doing it!

for the record I was on TPV but I dont think I was first to win the £3k

Thanks for the kind comments

Andy Kelly

Wow. This site is becoming THE place to be for all DoND addicts.

Daytime TV is not meant to be this exciting. It's not meant to produce moments like people running around a studio and turning to the audience with arms aloft.

But then, this show defies all the rules.

Enjoy your winnings, you certainly deserved them - Premiership footballers earn more than £20,000 for 90 minutes of tedium, so on that level £20,000 for 45 minutes of fabulous entertainment is well deserved.
