That's an amazing travel story. As a hard core traveler myself I can relate to much of what you experienced. (I, too, have reluctantly slept with roaches...while the rats entertained themselves by eating a hole through my suitcase!)
I'm sorry you went through all of that, especially the asthma part and on your vacation no less! It really is one of the worse stories I've heard. If it is any consolation though, I have indeed heard worse. For example, you can be thankful you didn't come home with worms in your brain! Yes, true story, but not mine, thankfully.
But, you know me, I'm ever the optimist and in my humble opinion I have to say that I'm glad you had that experience. Why? Because it is exactly those types of experiences that challenge your fortitude and resourcefulness. I know it's cliche, but it's a character building experience. It makes you an interesting person...so much more so than if you'd never left your comfort zone to try something new. The fact that you seek out new experiences and take chances is exactly why I like you! (If nothing else, you got a great story out of it!)
And you always learn something. In this case, you learned Travel Rule #1 - Never get on a plane without provisions for an overnight stay. I, too, learned that one the hard way.
I hope that the rest of the vacation improved. I suppose it couldn't have gotten much worse.
Speaking of travel stories, remind me to tell you my famous "pig story" next week,...but not while we're eating.
Now, see....if you hadn't gone through such an ordeal, you wouldn't have nearly as entertaining a story to tell! I did notice that you left the good stuff out! Oh, and by the way, good guess on the Fahrenheit to Celcius conversion.....100 deg. F is about 37.8 deg. C.

The airlines lost my luggage once, too. Checking your luggage is a mistake travellers usually only make once.
