Holy smokes! Scary!
Wow...glad you're okay. You're well familiar with the overarching issues that cause that. SoCal is far more settled than it was when all those air stations were built, and the sprawl getting closer and closer to the airfields and moving under flight paths, etc makes malfunctions VERY dangerous.
One of the things that always blows my mind no matter how many times I see it is the approach to San Diego airport. Look up as you drive through it on the I-5 and you'd swear those landing gear are only 10 feet over yer head.
More on your crash, found on a professional site I peruse. That really sucks. Three dead and a guy who held on as long as he could trying to get the plane to a safe punch-out area who's gonna be messed up for the rest of his life.
Very, very sad.
