great thought, I too am a recovering catholic. I am 37 years old and finally realized that religion is just a way to control us. I could go on and on and on but I am done for now

Pretty standard arguments against Christianity, but, to my mind, not very convincing. You probably wouldn't find my counter-arguments much better, so in lieu of the usual worthless internet discussion, I offer the following:
Blah, blah, blah, non sequitur, blah.
Blah, blah, blah, inquisition, blah blah circular argument.
Blah, blah, over-simplification, blah.
Blah, blah, blah, Hitler.
QED
I guess we'll agree to disagree.
(Anonymous: Don't think irreligion doesn't have plans for you, too!)

these questions have been asked before, and people have tried to answer them. which is good because it makes lazy asses like me gain understanding without breaking my head trying to figure it out.
Professor/Msgr. Giussani wrote a couple of books, in my opinion, the best I've ever read on making the case for supernatural religion, Christianity and Catholicism.
Here's a link to his books: I'd recommend the most: The Religious Sense, and Why the Church.

About free will; Augustine also wrote a book on free will, I think titled Free Will. It's pretty good.
Giusanni in my opinion rocks, and talks a contemporary language. His method is brilliant and down to earth. He makes reasonable sense; and that's why I'm catholic, because so far, it's made a lot of sense. Especially when compared to everything else.

hmmm....
I'm a lousy apologist but a few things came to mind as I read the post:
1. sacraments (such as baptism) are visible signs of invisible realities
2. you haven't taken into account the concept of mercy.
3. check out Man and Woman He Created Them...that pretty much takes on all of the original experiences
