I just wanted to respond to Nancy Leigh DeMoss's comments on Carrie Prejean. To begin with, she's correct in giving Carrie credit for answering the same-sex marraige question the way she did at the Miss USA Pageant. Her answer cost her the crown. Yet, she answered the question the way most Christians would have answered it. If anything, Ms. DeMoss doesn't give her near the credit that she deserves.
Ms. DeMoss then goes on to criticize her for the bad decisions that she's made. I agree that these were acts were un-Christian. Yet, at the same time, may I remind Ms. DeMoss that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The Christian faith is replete with Chritians who have commited ungodly acts. Should it surprise us that Carrie Prejean is no different?
After the pageant was over, Carrie Prejean said that she prayed for Perez Hilton, even after he called her some terrible names. Wasn't this the Christian act to do?
Also, at the press conference where it was announced that she was going to keep her crown, she said that she forgave her critics. Again, wasn't this the Christian thing to do?
Are we as Christians suppose to throw stones at her just as her non-Christian critics would do except for a different reason? Are we as Christians suppose to dismiss her?
Carrie Prejean attends San Diego Christian College where she is studying Special Education. She is also a volunteer for Special Olympics. Carrie Prejean has a heart for disabled Children. Do you ever hear about that?
Carrie Prejean has been vilified and belittled in the media just for the way she answered that question. The latest attack is that her mother is a homosexual. Even if that were true, is that news and is it anybody's business?
Every day, Carrie Prejean is called terrible names whether by internet or on television. Carrie Prejean is an embattled young woman.
I ask that we as Christians pray for this young woman. If she falls, let's help her up rather than Condemning her. I ask more than anything else that we not dismiss her or distance ourselves from her. She desperately needs our prayers. Let's give her the help she needs. God bless you.
Yours truly,
David Jordan
