Don't think that didn't occur to me, that it isn't just a coincidence that we happen to have the most wannabe authoritarian government ever.
You know what's really wild? No airport staff could figure out that this guy needed help, when he was there for all that time, getting more & more agitated. What about all those new security measures we pay for every time we fly -- if these guys couldn't figure out how to deal with one guy who just wanted to get out of the airport, how are they going to figure out who's a terrorist.

First of all the Security field is nothing like the Police field. So much so that these days having too much of a Private Security background is actually a negative against you when applying to the Police because of all the bad habits/attitudes that Security guys pick up. The mind frame of your average security guy has nothing in common with a trained Police Constable.
Second of all the RCMP did nothing wrong in this situation. Its sad that it happened, I feel for the man and his family, but given his behavior at the time and the information the officers had at hand, deploying the Taser was an appropriate response based on their training in the use of force continuum.
They were faced with an aggressive and resistant subject who was not responsive to verbal communication (not his fault, but a fact nonetheless) in a very pubic and sensitive setting. The man was using an aggressive stance and had what later turned out to be a stapler in his hand. They deployed a tool which is generally less than lethal (without other medical complications) in an attempt to immobilize the suspect in a way which would cause least risk to the officers and innocent bystanders.
Unfortunately, for reasons which still haven't been brought to light, the man died. This is not the first time this has happened. People have died when faced with tasers before, as well as after being pepper sprayed or physically restrained. There have even been deaths after foot chases. Unfortunately not everybodys body is up to handle a confrontation with police.
I can say with complete confidence that these officers will be cleared of any wrongdoing as they did nothing wrong based on their training. Death by taser is very uncommon and could not be predicted. If I had to blame somebody it would be airport staff for letting the situation develop in the first place, not the RCMP for responding to something they didn't create.

Those officers will be cleared of any wrongdoing and so they should. They did what they were trained to do, and a man died, I know perfectly well that was never their intention. But it has to be called to action because even they live by the system we tell them to and we have to ask ourselves what we’re telling them to do. That’s the problem.
And I promise I won’t make any grandiose claims off my rent-a-cop days to validate my position on security issues anymore.

The man is obviously agitated, I would be too, but to be tazered for it is a little beyond the pale, I don't think the man was a huge threat, it could have been me with my famous Taurus attitude.

the second video is what I saw in the morning, not happy to be a Canadian boy. This is why I wrote this post, no apologies to guys who think I stole their security thunder.
Well first and foremost Bruce, my sympathy and condolences go out to the family. This was a tragic incident
I don't like to \"hunt people down\" but when you slag people without knowing the whole truth/facts, thats when it bothers me. its not hard to find the facts, but i will start with this:
The purpose of this paper is to shed some light, create meaningful dialogue, and encourage further scientific and medical research into the multi-factoral issues surrounding sudden and unexpected death proximal to restraint.
Although a rare occurrence in Canada, sudden and unexpected death proximal to police use of force and restraint is a reality that is gaining more and more public attention not just in our country, but internationally as well. Often, the causes of these deaths are attributed by some in the media, special interest groups, and the general public to a specific force option used by police during arrest (Taser, pepper spray, physical restraint), due to the fact that their proximity to death make a cause and effect correlation easier to accept and understand, even when these same force options have been medically discounted as contributing to the cause of death later at autopsy.
Looking for causation in sudden and unexpected death proximal to restraint is an emotionally charged subject, which up until very recently had very few answers. However, based upon both the scientific research and the medical literature reviewed for this paper, the writer will be suggesting that in some cases it may not be the force option used that causes death, but rather a severe and some times fatal medical condition known as, \"Excited Delirium\"
If you watch the video, you will notice that Mr.Dziekanski is sweating and very agitated. Lactic acid is building up due to stress, fatigue, lack of water and anger. Again I dont have all the facts, so I will do the same as you and \"assume\". If Mr.Dziekanski had a preexisting medical condition, then it only takes a little effort to push him over the edge into a myocardial infarction.
There are alot of factors we (you) don't know about, so dont you think it would be best to allow the \"Professionals\" to investigate this and give us all the facts prior to you condemning the young officers. I am sure you and your \"fans\" would not like to be judged prematurely either...so Bruce, I wont judge you.

Well Jimmy, thank you for pointing out my ignorance in your defense of a system that I can see you feel works well. I may display a certain ignorance but I know what a rat smells like. What paper are you referring to? A link perhaps?
If that video had never come out this would not be an issue, just some poor slob who died at the airport, nothing to see, let’s all move on.
The RCMP were very quick to point out that were no cameras in that part of the airport, they were very quick do defend themselves and assure that they would investigate the matter THEMSELVES.
When a man dies at the hands of police it is essential that a separate inquiry is held, I’m not saying they’re bad guys but something went wrong here and we deserve to know why, that’s my understanding of democracy.
JJ, I don’t think law enforcement is asking anyone to do anything, there are enough out there who will do it on their own thinking they are going to prove a point they don’t have the resources to. Armchair soldiers of fortune if you will.

Well Bruce, thanks for toning it down a bit. If you look at all the press releases, it's not only the RCMP, but the public complaints commission - which is a civilian run outfit that keeps police inline - that are running parallel investigations....so this \"so called cover up\" is blown out of proportion.
