Both campaigns are the embodiment of Orwell's "war is peace, ignorance is knowledge" quote. Everything is turned on its head. Instead of earning our votes with their understanding of the issues and solutions to the current economic problems, they demand them by deflection from the issues, saying "But but but.. Adscam!" and the like.
When did we start settling for so little?
Beautiful post Bruce. Very touching and brilliant.
I read about the attitude of those around you when you grew up and nearly cried. It took nearly 50 years of living to realize how lucky I was to have a father that demanded that we question authority (even though it took great pains for this shy kid) and who thought family games where about quizzing each other about other nations' capitals and leaders. We felt like weirdos at the time but my brothers and I are so much better for it.
We must reverse this anti-intellectual trend and groom future leaders who have vision and compassion. There are some great kids out there with lots of potential.
