The section of your post dealing with "...neurobiology of politics" is facinating, and fodder for reflection in everyday life.
I went on to find the Journal oneline, hoping to read the full text of the study but alas, $30US for the article - unfortunately not today, not for me.

LOL. For most of us, our minds have a gentle way of sheilding us from our inadequacies, or least blurring them a bit. But when your mind sheilds you from your identity (and your actions) it's straight-jacket time.

LH, It’s surprisingly easy for people to deceive themselves although it’s clear some take it farther than others, Larry Craig is a good example. It’s a topic I want to expand when I get a chance.
