Actually, in the stories you linked to, I don't see anything damning about the parents of this little boy, but the opposing parents and the media are the ones who are making all the fuss. I think it's possible the story is being blown out of proportion by those who oppose the way the school district is handling this boy's situation, not by the parents at all.
This is a ridiculously ignorant post. The parents of this child were traumatized by this. What happened is that the child finally became old enough to make this known to the parents, after having shown gender variant behavior for years. The parents did not pick up on what the situations was earlier, and had resisted it, precisely because transgenderism was outside of their realm of what was possible. Once the child was able to make it clear however, and the parents got over the initial shock, they were able to move beyond societal biases to do the right thing for their child, after consulting with numerous medical professionals.
