Ahh, the beauty of capitalism of latter day saints. Food facilities are key security hot spots now. How N-ICE.
Those bastards are so stupid. Want to hear about the importance of economic security to the food industry and its partners in the US Government?
Japan cut off imports of US beef after MadCow disease was found in a US cow. For years the USDA and the meat packing industry worked (over) the Japanese government to let US beef back into the country. The US was losing lots of money from the cutoff (and lets face it, money is a key component of security - just ask the US capitalists who are trying to find a way into discussions with Cuba about developing its oil fields - so that the Spanish oil company doesn't get it all).
So, finally, diplomacy won the day and Japan opened to imports again. In the very first shipment, some stupid capitalist included a cut of beef that still had the spine attached - a big no no. Japan flipped out.
I would have thought that USDA would have made sure that it inspected the first shipments really carefully so that all went smoothly. I would have thought that the industry would have gotten the word out to all that it was important not to fuck up. Nope, chaos theory abounds. I obviously don't think that well, and neoliberal deregulation means cut the fat - and leave the spine in place.
So, they ignore public health practices and policies to sell beef - even if for a day, and they undermine public health practices and policies so that they can catch the undocumented people from another country who are willing to risk their own health, safety, and security to provide food for US citizens and others living in the US.
Security uber alles - ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country is doing to you and everyone else. The Spy-a-Thon

As a safety professional who has seen hispanic workers (even legal ones) get seriously hurt trying to escape immigration when the little brown van pulls up on a construction site, I'm amazed anyone would stoop to this. Though was not "Brownie" technically working for "Homeland Security" when he stated on CNN that the government had "just found out" about what was going on at the Superdome when the entire nation had been watching it for days on TV? I guess that shows the level of IQ and/or integrity we're dealing with.

Your two-faced drivel is amazing. You want to pretend that people who come into this country illegally are not really lawbreakers and then you don't want health and safety laws broken.

With Bush's 2007 budget zeroing out OSHA's training grants program, pretty soon the only "health and safety" classes sponsored by the federal government will be immigration raids.

How can I get a copy of ICE's intention to lure unsuspecting immigrant workers into stings via "safety training" that I can print out (in Spanish)?
I just don't get it---employers love these workers--Low labor costs, no overtime, no vacation/sick pay, no benefits--they exploit their laborand profit from it, with the government's blessing apparently,
but the INS wants to turn these people into criminals, drive them further underground, or out of the country, for what???

Speaking of OSHA training...I have been told by insiders that the OSHA Training Institute is transitioning to outsourcing of all training classes including those that most OSHA inspectors attend to learn their job.

I worked for a rural fruit processing plant that had 100% Mexican line staff, some legal, some not. The safety program was pretty good, compared with some of the stuff out there, and people were paid above minimum wage (still wasn't what they are worth but it wasn't atrociosly small).
It was a family-run smallish business and the owner was a proud supporter of the state's Republican party with a signed thank-you photo for his donation from President Bush on his desk.
So who is hiring the law-breakers? The Republicans. The capitalists. But I'm confused, who is complaining about illegal immigrants? Republicans? I honestly don't know.

If you want workplace safety laws to be followed and you want worker safety, then you should support immigration enforcement.
Any time you have illegal aliens working, there's a good chance they'll be abused.
Those who support illegal immigration - such as this site - are part of the problem.

It will be easy enough to spot the INS agent - he's the only one claiming to be from OSHA who has been here in the last five years.

Aaah, nothing to worry about.
Halliburton was just awarded a two-year contract for $385 million to build detention centers across America...to lock-up all the illegal immigrants who are supposedly massing to the south and poised to enter the U.S..
Or,
the detention centers are for illegal immigrants already in-country who are being lured by lies by an administration famous for lying to fake job safety meetings that are actually sting operations.
Or,
the detention centers are being built in preparation for when Marshall Law comes riding into a town near you, or into your own home, as Sheriff George and Deputy Dick declare a state of emergency, suspend all civil liberties and lock-up anyone who disagrees with them.
A state of emergency caused by 1) their inept foreign policies that will drive the price of gasoline so high in the next year that we will experience runaway inflation and through-the-roof unemployment that will sink the U.S. economy and/or 2) our intelligence agencies, stripped of all experts and replaced by Michael "Heckuva Job" Brown clones, will fail to connect the dots, after which an al Qaeda "sleeper cell" will blow up something really big inside the United States.
Of course, after either of these third scenarios happen, Sheriff George and Deputy Dick will blame Bill Clinton, call Hilary Clinton an angry woman unfit to be president and claim that what has happened under their watch is all the fault of the Democrats, especially those who questioned the illegal wiretaps of U.S. citizens which hamstrung the "Heckuva Job" Brown clone-filled intelligence agencies to such an extent they missed the coded message by a member of the "sleeper cell" cryptically stating that something big was going to happen soon...somewhere. Even though the FBI had the "sleeper cell" under 24/7 surveillance because they somehow were connected to the Abramoff scandal.
Of course, $385 million could go a long way to building enough detention centers (i.e. prisons) to cover all three of these eventualities.

I'm a safety professional and I think this is a great idea. Any way you put it illegal workers are just that "illegal" and should not be employed here in the US.

OK. "Illegal" workers should not be employed here...but who employs them--and why? They ARE employed here, in many cases for substandard wages, so now--what? Send them back to their countries, and hire American citizens for higher wages (if employers can get them to do the hard, tedious, and often DANGEROUS work currently done by immigrants)? Or do we...push for legal status for the immigrants who are here NOW,and have been gainfully employed for a reasonable amount of time? Or do we just build a bunch of prisons, contract work inside the walls to private industry using undocumented immigrant labor, for even LOWER labor costs than in China, and consequently bring manufacturing back to the US, pull our electronics and clothing factories out of China and other low wage countries because US privatized prison labor will actually be cheaper than China's. Of course, to make that work, the US would have to lock up a hell of a lot of people. Maybe we could bring back debtor's prisons, poorhouses.Or put all those annoying orphans into the privatized prisons. Let 'em work for their keep.(This is sarcasm,BTW)Anybody tries to escape---Cheney shoots 'em.
