My favorite vocal version of "Love for Sale," of course is one by Carmen McRae (though the album it's from isn't a favorite overall, and neither, I hasten to add as a good evangelist, is the free online one to which I linked in a comment some time ago). Anyway, she makes a little aside which I think is relevant to your reservations: "You can tell I'm the madam, right?"
