Word.
Your post reminds me of Jon Stewart reporting on his experience at a Bruce Springsteen show:
"It was... do you like, are you a fan of joy? Do you like joy? You should go see his concert. Unless you're more into, what do they call it there... shitty experiences."

Straight Up. One of my favorite hits of 2007 was the MWAaC IAJE hit.
It's "Verse-ace," by the way.

Matthew, I'm sure you saw these at the time, but for anyone who originally missed it, I have some photos from that IAJE gig.

As someone who has had the distinct pleasure to sit right next to MW's ride cymbal at a restaurant gig with Mario Pavone and just 6 months ago having the joy of spending the evening at Firehouse 12 with A&C, I understand the love letter. But you need to know that you are but one of many who vie for his affections.
Yet you nailed the reason why Matt's band and music is so great - it's fun. The musicians enjoy playing together, the music he writes is challenging yet approachable (as is he - try it), and he plays with so much soul.
I'm happy you had the opportunity to partake of the MW experience. Get in line with the rest of us suitors.

DJA -
I think that was the night I met you. I'm excited about seeing your hit and panel at IAJE. I hope to get my own crap together an start posting more (more anything, but commentary and local scene stuff primarily) in order to have a little presence of my own.
I'm starting to foster my own interest in composition, taking a survey class with Chuck Owen at South Florida, and would like to chat with you about composition at some point.
I should also ask if you've considered attending the 08 Jazz Composers' Symposium. It's an event I'm producing at Park City next summer.

By the way, off topic.
Every now and then NYC seems to be very slow when it comes to discover its own glorious musical past.
Today's NY Times ( 12.11) just discovered the motion picture " My Name is Albert Ayler".
You'll find it under " movies".
