The sorting example in the middle sadly rings true as it was something I was doing (well, three bins) before they switched us to a uni-bin.

Among the takeaways:
1) There's no landfill shortage.
2) The economics do not support recycling. Cost to process household garbage is ~$55/ton. cost to process recycling: ~$150/ton.
