"Sure, but do you want to base your day or ideology on a jacked up time piece. Hell no!!!"

Awesome line, dude.

Nice post, almost all of which I agree with. However:

"if you truly believe Imus should have been fired then I call you a coward."

This is where you're wrong, IMO.

CBS and MSNBC are corporate entities, not government. They have the right to hire and fire whomever they want, including those who engage in "ignorant drivel", as you put it. They're in the business of making money, and if they feel like the backlash from his comments would affect their bottom line, they had a fiduciary responsibility to their stockholders to cut him loose.

Where the First Amendment comes in is that the government (via the FCC) should have no say in the matter, as they did back when they fined Stern for his remarks.

Technically, you're correct WB. But I would still stand by the crux of my coward statement. IMHO, those that wanted Imus' ouster were afraid of the implications behind a vote of confidence regarding his free speech rights. Truth be told Imus was shit canned because his sponsors were leaving in droves, not because CBS had a problem with negative publicity. Money talks and shit walks.

Gravatar Well put, Shrub. Couldn't agree more...

Gravatar Not a first amendment issue. This is a free enterprise issue. Jackson-sharpton and the professionally offended class will not let the market take its course. They want to be in control of it.

When CBS fires Imus a week late instead of immediately, they showed they were cowardly, not morally outraged. Moral outrage takes place much sooner. They should have simply watched their rating sheets on the Imus show and fired him when the numbers went unsustainable. But since Imus has become popular mouthing off like that, He was not in danger of losing his job. There were also no shortage of advertizers. Businesses like to sell products to the Imus audience just as much to the Oprah audience.

Gravatar Hey, I love the blog that you have. I was wondering if you would link my blog to yours and in return I would do the same for your blog. If you want to, my site name is American Legends and the URL is:

www.americanlegends.info

If you want to do this just go to my blog and in one of the comments just write your blog name and the URL and I will add it to my site.

Thanks,
David

Gravatar Shrubbery,

You still around, man?
