Unless Hans can demonstrate the site's ability to record a tie, I'd say the machine just randomly assigned one of them first place and the other second.

It probably would be harder to program "the machine" to randomly decide which post comes first. An easier, and more likely, explanation is that "the machine" does not break down for us the response into seconds. Clearly, EJ rang in mere seconds earlier and that is reflected in her being posted earlier. Of course, there is the strong possibility that the guy who lost buzzed in first, but due to traffic along the Internets, it didn't get to the Machine fast enough. But them's the breaks. EJ wins. No more argument.
