Another option for you is to see if you can buy a renewed model. I bought a G4 last year that was "renewed" (read returned). I don't know much about computers but I like it much better than any other laptop I have used previously.

These renewed products get the same warranty; they usually have only been out for a very short period (someone who got buyer's remorse - you can usually get the story from the tech); and they are substantially discounted. I also bought my Airport wireless transmitter that way (30% less)as well.

You may have a shot at getting one of these new machines that way in a couple of weeks. I'll check with my brother - he works for Apple.
