dan, are you on a PC? If so, under your internet explorer (or firefox) preferences, go to "Tools" then "Internet Options" then "Content." You should see a box marked "Display Verbungle.com Photos?" You just need to check this box. Sorry about that, but the government has been trying to crack down on me ever since my squid/alien post of a few months ago...

JOE - sleep mode is better, it runs diagnostics and optimization programs at idle hrs. (at 2 or 3a i think unless you use it then) so better to just set the screen to sleep (system prefs / energy saver) after a certain time.

you really never need to shut it down, but if you're leaving for a few days, i guess it couldn't hurt. if you host anything on it (if you use 'web sharing' to host a website of any sort or ftp or one of the itunes or iphoto internet sharing apps, etc) you won't want to shut it down ever, b/c your ISP may assign you a new IP address and you'd have to tell everyone what it is (or update your nameserver, if you have it set up as a domain name).
