I laughed at the Marmaduke page, so no points there.
My parents once let me go out and play tennis with a friend in the middle of a tornado warning.

left out a batch of 'brownies' to cool. my aunt's dog ate them all, and was passed out when they came home.
...btw - the dog survived and lived a happy life for many more years.

hey, I like Marmaduke! As for Garfield ..fuck that piece of shit.
regarding your list:
1) wow, that's pretty astonishing your parents did that. i at least hope they won at the crap table.
2) that's even scarier. was that at P-town in Cape Cod? that might explain a lot..
3) that one is actually awesome. mad props to your parents on that.
4) i remember that and also remember how wildly unhealthy i thought that was at the time (*and that was coming from myself a junk-food junkie).
5)aww, that was the best! wellll, aside from the kitchen incident. i still give props to your parents on that one. good times.. (*would they get mad if we went and did that THIS year? let's go for it. )
6)unforgivable! to this day, i still never let my mom forget that one. parents can be so fucking naive on that shit.
7) with contact info = cool
without contact info = bad

two random thingers:
1) hans i think this past wknd we were randomly in the bar where i made fun of the knicks and you were all 'what a dick' -- 15th bet 3rd and irving pl -- it seems to have become a bit of a gay/lesbian hangout. the whole time i was all "i've been here before."
2) deion, i went back and checked out the 82 world cup highlights and you were right about the france / west germany semi-final. i'd forgotten how aws it was but u forgot how the german keeper almost killed battison in one of the most callous challenges in world cup history (more here)

Were you by chance at the end of the birth order in your family?
My mom regularly made me vienna sausage sandwiches with mayonnaise on white bread. She claims it's because I asked for them. I guess if I'd asked her to bring me some Goldschlager to wash it down with, she'd have to pour me a tall one, shrug and say, "Kids today!"

pbdotc-
that night at the bar with the knicks was the first time i ever saw you. i was at the time, like hans, a rabid knick fan, and you were amazingly annoying. however, the knicks were getting killed, so none of us could say anything to you. i kept leaning over to hans and asking, "who is that peter north-looking douche bag? i want to kill him..."

In PB's defense, he was schnockered on margaritas. I thought, this'll be fun, I'll bring two of my worlds together... Hans and PB will surely get along. Bad idea. Nice to see everyone forgive and forget.

good comments today. some answers:
1) deion, the daytona trip was with jon i., ken r. and the nanda bros.
2) D.Lee, the hitch-hiking was in Nantucket, so you were close. We did it a bunch of times.
3) Christina, I am the second and last kid.
4) PBdot, the night at Revival was memorable. I think everything would have been fine if we had all been at the same level of drunkenness. You were just ahead of the pack and we never caught up.

hans-
here are some others i recall re: your parents-
1)allowed a bunch of really dirty kids to sleep over, fight and use the ketchup and mustard for nasty purposes.
2)your pop brought home "debbie does dallas" for you and your friends to enjoy.
3)bought a basketball hoop (official size) for you to install on the wooden doors in your house so you could rip huge chunks of door out, and then re-install close by to cause further damage.
4)allowed you sister and her friends to tag up her room so that it looked like a 1970's NYC subway train (or at least one door in her room).
5)sanctioned the use of a "family" tussy.
6)they were really never home.
all of this reminds me: do you remember when dlee's mom brought a barf bag for you on a trip because you had barfed the previous time she drove you somewhere?

I certainly think my parents could give yours a run for their money:
1. Once left my sister and me alone in Vermont - my sister, 8y.o. proceeded to drive me, 4 y.o. down the dirt road outside about a mile - and back!
2. Even after Etan Patz disappeared, continued to let me go to the same bus stop alone to school and back.
3. Re- IS70 - at least you didn't have a rabid homocidal pack of brain damaged teenagers trying to kill you for months.
4. Put my sister and myself in small windowless rooms despite living in a 5000sf loft.
I think I have some issues to deal with and should stop right now...

mom didn't take the time to read a malaria Rx thoroughly...told me to take 1-a-day for a week, when the proper dosage - we discovered later - was 1-per-week...side effects were hallucinations & depression...by the end of the week i wasn't able to sleep, i was having utterly horific nightmares and was battling suicidal feelings.

lex, those are some solid ones...
where was this bus stop? who was etan patz? and what happened to him?
...and windowless rooms for u and sis in the 5,000 sqft loft is a classic.
is70 - being in the same homeroom as michael 'you can take the pain' myers didn't help me any.
yeah hans, what were your folks thinkin' still allowing me to come over after i had ripped down chunks of your door 3x times?

That's some funny shit.
My parents never went anywhere, and I haden't been on a plane till I was 18.
But today we sent our 11 yr old to school on the train to Manhattan. In 3 years I'll be reading about it in her blog.
