it is bunk that they are making such a big deal out of a-rod shouting 'mine' or whatever while the jays 3rd baseman was settling under a foul pop. yes, it is a childish move, but they are playing a kids game out there, for shit's sake. lighten up and have a little fun! i could see the same thing and more happening at a jj walker softball game without so much as an eye being betted. by the way, the jays 3rd baseman should know the difference betw a-rods voice and his shortstop.

moving on to a-rod's behavior after the play. yeah, there is something about him that screams uptight, smug schmuck that invites a negative reaction rather than being able to laugh it off, but that is a different story.

yeah it's not just the a-rod 'i got it' maneuver -- which, I agree, would draw applause if pulled off successfully at JJ Walker, although that's neither here nor there -- it's just his overall prickishness.

I agree he is a jerk and I've disliked him for a long time. Inexplicably, however, I felt sympathy for him last year when he was getting blasted by everyone.

bottom line: if the NY post wants to run you out of town, they might figure out a way. this is the beginning of arod's long goodbye. or maybe not so long ... maybe yankees will deal him at the deadline.

you won't see "the captain" plastered on rupert's rag like that no matter how many jacuzzis he soils.

tough call if you are going to see that cheap play at JJ walker. if you say yes, then i say: why hasn't it already happened? it's a bit of unspoken rule he broke there.

Today i heard a guy on the street say:

"I remember when the Chipwich first came out."

It was on 51st and 6th today on my way to work. I wished i was in the convo. going where they were going. doing what they were doing.

Amen

Since there hasn't been a list from anyone in a while:

Five music folks who I feel I should like or at least appreciate, but whom I am completely bored by:

1. Bjork
2. Eric Clapton
3. Bill Laswell
4. Count Basie
5. 2Pac

That's a pretty good list.

who's Bill Laswell?

I add to that music list:

1) Flaming Lips
2) Beach Boys
3) Ella Fitzgerald
4) Jarvis Cocker
5) The Replacements (~gasp! I may be banned from Verbungle forever.)

i like this game. dlee, i disagree with everyone on your list except jarvis cocker.

and again, who's bill laswell?

Hmmm, how did i guess you wouldn't agree with The Replacements? As for the other three I just never dug them. It's all subjective. I disagree with Bnew on Bjork, Clapton, and Count Basie.

This game ain't bad for other forms of entertainment as well. Foe example:

1) John Wayne
2) Buster Keaton
3) Opera
4) Annie Lebowitz
5) Ballet

oh please! like all of this a-rod crap wasn't scripted by steinbrenner to get the yankees back on the back page!

let's go mets!

Here's Bill Laswell:

He somehow gets to produce and work with many extraordinary musicians and make them all boring.

I'm down with dlee's list. Flaming Lips are right at the top for me. Would love an example of a Bjork of Clapton song I should listen to.

Clapton: ..you don't like Cream or the Byrds??

oopps ..Bjork

bnew i'm not huge clapton apologist but if you want to hear him at his finest, in my opinion, listen to 461 ocean boulevard. don't expect to much out of it; it's just an old record with fun stuff on it.

as for the rest of the folks everyone mentioned, i could not agree more. the first time i heard that flaming lips record, i thought it was cool. then the tracks kept coming up in my ipod shuffle and i was all "damn, this blows." and i kept deleting them one by one until they were all gone. one day i realized that the 'pink robots' deal was simply a warmed over 'mr roboto' and i was no longer 13.

as for count basie, you probably needed to see him live circa 1962 in new york city for him to really be impressive.

as for bjork: unlistenable.

How does it feel to be on Hiatus (or are you still sleeping)?
