i agree flopping is outta control but i don't know if it's been an ultra deterrant to the game (*that honor goes to the hacking D & grind-it-out O introduced and then practices by Riley & Van Gundy respectively). I think the flops are undoubtably an influence of pioneering forgein NBA players who grew up watching soccer (*i.e. Vlade Divac). Maybe it's time to take a cue from another sport ..bring out the yellow cards.

Regarding hiatus: ponder the writing thing I brought up, Hans. It doesn't have to be all-consuming. More a fun, creative past-time activity. Think about it. Who wouldn't wanna see an IS70 version of Dazed & Confused? Hilarious..

are you going to work hard or mail it in? or maybe somewhere in the middle?

I agree re the flopping. I also hate the soft and phantom calls. Perhaps the answer can be found in technology. I suggest that all players begin wearing pressure sensitive tape all over their bodies. The tape, which would be filled with that liquid shit that you can find in Duracell batteries that indicates the strength remaining, would change color if and only if a certain requisite amount of force were applied to the tape (and concomitantly, the wearer). Only then could a foul be called, and only then if appropriate.
