Funny...and true

mental note: never sit on Hans couch.

regarding The Band: ahhh, yes. music in it's purest form. in the voice of a cranky old man allow me to state, "--they just don't make songs like that no more." the vid makes me wanna hop a train and head up to Woodstock and reminise over childhood autumn afternoons spent in town at Jacobs eating tobuleh & hummus while my uncle would spin tales of his road/neighbor experiences with the Band. gotta love those crunchy 70's stoners..

PS: hans, u ever get my e-mail?

dlee, I think you are using an old email address for me -- use the softball one or bungmeister at verbungle dot com

levon helm is cool.

I just saw this (a prediction from Ken Rosenthal) and it (again) made me think just how much people overvalue closers:

"Red Sox in 7: The Sox will have decent options however it works out, and I'm sticking with them as my pick to win the World Series. The Indians, well, I just think they've got a fatal flaw. I picked the Yankees to beat them in the first round because of my reservations about Borowski. I still have those reservations, and I can't imagine that Borowski won't figure prominently in a best-of-seven series."

what this jackass is saying is-bad closer will blow games and decide the outcome.

This is just SO stupid. Prediction: Borowski will not at all figure into this series in this way. When was the last time you recall postseason baseball riding on the closer-i.e. when a team's closer blew it? 1993 Phils-Jays? I don't mean things like in 2001 with some lucky hitting off of Rivera. Oy.

I dunno...rivera blew 2 games in 2004 too...my instinct is that a closer blows 1 out of every 6 or 7 opps in general, with a bad one blowing slightly more. I think borowski's suckiness could factor into the series, although i would not be so bold as to
base my prediction on it. I think it's time for a quick kissel study of the last 100 postseason games to see how often the closer played a big role one way or the other.

I agree that the closer is overvalued/misused, but I think relief pitching in general is still very important. Since borowski's a big part of their pen, he could potentially swing a game which in turn could swing the series. You have to think of great postseason relief work when you evaluate this question, not just lousy work. For instance, foulke in 2004.

It must be hard as hell to play the drums and sing at the same time.

Of course relief pitching is important. And Cleveland has fantastic relief pitching. That is what makes Rosenthal's comment so stupid. It is somehow like their shitty closer makes their bullpen worse than Boston's(not so-they are both strong).

The whole closer thing is just one of the most stupid of stupid baseball things. Of the teams that made it in the AL only Papelbon has a good season (K-rod and Mariano had substandard seasons and as we know Borowski sucks). It somehow is is a philosophy like "gee,David Ortiz is so clutch; lets use him as our SPECIAL pinch hitter so that he can always bat in the 9th if the game is on the line."

I'm not letting Michael Schiavo anywhere near my Willard.

for the record, i have never taken the penis iq test myself, although i did attempt a modified version on top of your mama.
