Yeah! What is it with the womenfolk and kiddie music?
I am TOTALLY with you on this. I've been trying to get our little one into Fishbone, The Little Willies, The Cardigans, Public Enemy and Napalm Death, but every time he gets the tiniest bit fussy, she immediately suggests that we listen to The Wiggles.
Talk about wanting to put a screwdriver in your ear!

The importance of musical indoctrination CANNOT be understated.
Imagine a 3-day road trip, where the only way to silence the screaming fits is to play Barney or Raffi (and the same song, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over agan).
Now, imagine the same trip with Me First And The Gimme Gimmes.

I say you just conveniently "lose" the offending music. There's great stuff out there for kids too:
They Might Be Giants have a great kids album ("No!") that I still sing along to, and the Music for Little People record label has tons of great artists (Taj Mahal, Los Lobos, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Buckwheat Zydeco...) doing music for kids that makes Barney look like a stupid purple tone-deaf dinosaur.

We've got the TMBG CD, thanks to your recommendation. But really, aren't all They Might Be Giants CDs kids albums?

Yes, they all are. Even the ones that aren't.
Check out this cute video of a 2.5 year old girl singing "Kiss Me, Son of God." (You might have to click on the site pass to see it...)
