I am already wrestling with this one. The boy tells our daughter not to hit unless they hit her first. But in a daycare situation it would be better to say "don't hit, and if anyone hits you tell the nearest teacher".
let him playfight with friends, so when he does need to defend himself - he will know some moves and will not be afraid. Or put him in boxing!
This is a tough one. My guess is most his experiences haven't been that serious....and when faced with a real bully, instinct will kick in and he'll rise to the occasion.
As my son got older he was always played rugby and did years of martial arts. On one hand I hated the violence of his sports - on the other I liked feeling like he could take care of himself.
