More memes!?! Fine, here goes.
1) Ten years ago I was...
a grad student at Stanford, engaged to the lady who is now the wife but was then living in Chicago. I was piss poor among all these rich Palo Altans near the high of the dot.com lunacy, but I was in a great lab and department. Other than that (and the California weather), it blew.
[Strange note there: I was at Stanford while Chelsea was an undergrad, and I saw her a bunch of times. I used to walk right past her dorm on my way between the lab and graduate student housing. One time soon after the Monica Lewinsky brouhaha broke out I saw Chelsea talking to Hillary in a big SUV, surrounded by a bunch of peeps in dark suits milling around. Would like to have been a fly on the wall in that conversation].
2) Five things on today's to-do list:
I don't make usually make to-do lists, but here is my amorphous list of things which require completion:
a) Analyze the cells from expts I did on 5/6 and 5/7 [nearly 100% completed].
b) split cells so I can do expts early next week.
c) get reimbursed for breakfast I got for the lab for journal club.
d) ponder what Iron Maiden shirt to purchase, so I can stand next to the wife and boy in their Metallica shirts (currently leaning towards The Trooper).
e) try and put TRPC5 related references into appropriate project mind map locations
3) Things I'd do if I were a billionaire:
First I'd do the obligatory paying off the debt of the family, save for college etc, and gave some to different charities (EFF I'm looking at you).
Then, since I'm a selfish bastard, so I'd make my own private lab. That way I could work on whatever I wanted. But I would also fund people from smaller labs and countries to come and work there. Oh, and , I'd have an artist in residence. And art all over the damn place.
4) Three bad habits:
-Slacking on lawn mowing. It shows.
-getting crazy upset when woken out of sleep. Sorry wife and son.
-Not calling people/businesses when the wife asks me to. [I hate the phone, just hate it. I know I sound like a complete spazz to the other person. I maintain it's because when listening through one ear my brain has trouble processing it and then coming up with the appropriate speech output. Really, it's not my fault, it's my biology.]
5) Five places I've lived:
Chicago, IL
Stanford, CA
Roslindale, MA
Norwood, MA
Walpole, MA
6) Six jobs I've had in my life:
Don't have 6, but here's the list -Cashier/usher at a movie theater. (this is an awesome high school job)
-Undergrad research assistant studying fruit flies adaptation to high temps
-Res. assistant studying mutations in ion channels altering insulin signalling (before grad school)
-now post doc researcher, but only recently officially (in IRS terms) an employee).
