Oh honey, I couldn't walk two blocks in shoes like that.
Those shoes were meant to be decorative and, as such, should have a label: "Do not walk more than 37 steps in these shoes."
Your new friends sound very nice. But next time, they should take a survey of everyone's feet before deciding to walk 7 blocks. 
I couldn't walk far in heels either. I always bring 2 pairs of shoes to weddings and go back to the car and change at some point. Switching shoes, even if they are both high heels makes a difference. I've heard that Oprah wears comfortable shoes until just before she walks on stage, and she sits for an hour in her fabulous shoes, and then goes off stage and takes the heels off and back into comfortable shoes.
I am very particular about where I wear ANY heels...if there's even a smidge of a chance I'd be in them even a second too long, I don't wear them. So, yeah, most of my dressier shoes aren't high-high heels!
I wore flats today. But I noticed each and every woman at the Capitol who was wearing heels. And they looked so very very good. I think I'll work on strengthening my calf muscles. Yes, I'm sure it was just that my calf muscles gave out, sagged on me as it were.
