Gravatar Thanks for directing us to this interesting article. I've had a stressful week at work but am now thoroughly glad and thankful that I work in Scottish Prison Service jails rather than that one in Lima.

Gravatar please stop using tinyurl: it means your readers don't know where a link is going to take us. just copy & paste the original link into your blog post.

i'm going to miss out on this article because i'm not going to follow a link i don't know the destination of.

(i've been annoyed by this before, but this is the first link that seemed really interesting.)

Please continue to use Tinyurl or any other links you may care to insert in your blog.

Your blog. Your rules.

And maybe someone could show that poor afflicted anon where the Shift Key is....

Gravatar This Governnment has a propensity to ignore the evidence of experience, or even plain bloomin' common sense, half the time, arguing that "It'll be different this time... we'll set up procedures to make sure X doesn't happen... don't worry, the regulator will ensure that all will be rosy in the garden...". Then they go ahead and do what they want and, whoopsie, it doesn't work after all. But by then it's fait accompli and we just have to live with it.

P.S Don't be unkind to Anonymous! Anon - the link is to Times Online, so you're probably safe.

Gravatar Anon,

if you click on this http://tinyurl.com/preview.php?enable=1 (and have cookies enabled) then tinyurl will show a preview of the destination url before going there.

The reason people use these is to prevent urls breaking up on line ends.

Of course, there's nothing to stop any url redirecting you off site ...

Gravatar Has anyone read 'Lord of the Flies'?

Gravatar One hardly needs to be a psychiatrist to see that Titan prisons will not work. Only this government would think that they will. In truth, they see financial savings in setting up such establishments and the savings will be achieved by closing others.

Gravatar I usually enjoy Mr Dalrymple, but visiting the crappiest prison in a third world country, or at least a "less developed country", and from that experience summising that large prisons in this country would be run the same way, is a logical leap akin to "all cats have four legs; my dog has four legs; my dog is a cat".
