The only thing I have ever had against Richardson is that despite being bright and personable, he manages to also be a terrible public speaker. He was quite bad in the debates he took part in, and I think it will be even worse when contrasted with Obama (kind of like having a high, nasly voice on the James Earl Jones ticket).

It sucks that that is true, but there you go. Kucinich would be taken seriously if he looked like George Clooney. Gonna be way too many pitfalls set up to have someone who tends to do the foot in mouth thing under the best of circumstances.

I have heard tell from friends in Santa Fe that Richardson may have some easy to find dirt in his background. Cabinet position- if he delivers new Mexico.

there is only one realistic choice: Henry Rollins.

I'd LOVE to see him debate ANYONE the goops put up against him. It would be like putting a rabbit in a cage with a panther. A wounded rabbit. With only one leg.

Gravatar I've heard the same, USBlues -- from New Mexicans. Specifically, sexism and borderline harrassment within his office. I wish I still had the alt.newspaper from Santa Fe that mentioned that.

I think Cabinet is likely -- unless the muck rises fast upon his appointment.

Gravatar Richardson seems like a safe choice. I have no problems with him and slight positive opinion. Would it not piss off the Hillary supporters, especially those looking to get pissed off, to have a male "Judas" on the ticket. Just bringing it up... don't think we need to be super sensitive to that.

In many ways I guess I would prefer a woman to be Veep... just to watch the Right wing blow a gasket if it possible for them to get more upset.

If you want to watch one's veins throb mention to them that we liberals win either way... McCain is a liberal as they come to most Rightwingers.

Gravatar Not sure if he'd be the best VP choice but Richardson is likable and has a helluva impressive and diversified resume. What he should do is go out and start campaigning hard for Obama now and show how he can be effective with Latinos, with voters in NM, CO NV, & FL and with all other voters who are concerned about the economy, war, energy, etc. Once he shows what he can bring to the table, then he and Obama could talk.

I'm not buying the anecdotal talk about Richardson not being Latino enough. I, for one, would love to see the Black and Latino barriers to the White House doors knocked down in one swift Matrix-like kick. I'm tired of dreams deferred.

Oh, and this is a great Obama video.

Gravatar Eh. Like his resume, but like him much as a national politician.

He probably killed his chances as a running mate with his statements in front of the LGBT community late last year.

To tell you the truth, as an Arizona native, I wanted to like him, I tried really hard. He's not a great speaker, and he has a tin ear on some domestic issues.

I think he might make a decent Secretary of the Interior, or Secretary of State, if he wants it. Not sold on him as a running mate. Barack has a pretty good chance of winning New Mexico without him on the ballot.

Gravatar clarification: I don't like him much as a national politician.

Gravatar as a long time next door neighbor to richardson i would hope the vetting committee (after they get done vetting they goddamn selves) investigates thoroughly into the allegations. it could be standard GOP tactics assailing someone of latino heritage who has the gall to aspire to an office higher than head ditch digger, it could be true or partially true. it would have to be found out for certain and the response to the inevitable attacks planned. merely having accusations be proven untrue time and time again has never slowed the republican slur machine down a lick.

it would be fun as shit to see carville have to do some serious fucking groveling.

Gravatar While Goopers love to sling shit, they have WAY too much feces in their own backyards to have much standing among people who vote with their brains instead of their dicks in their hands...

Gravatar I'd love to see Richardson as Secretary of State. He's got a long and successful history of diplomatic contacts, and he seems to be well-thought-of overseas. Right now, we need someone who knows how to talk to and make friends with foreign leaders.

Gravatar Rollins as Obama's running mate would cause a landslide--for McCain.

Gravatar I still like Napolitano. Hell, the way McCain's going, she might be able to deliver Arizona, and THAT would be the harbinger of the tsunami. :o)

Gravatar BTW, I get a warm and fuzzy feeling that NO ONE has mentioned Hillary, as some kind of last ass-kiss to the triangulators.

Thank God, or, more accurately, I hope, Barack Obama's intelligence and his integrity.

Gravatar Richardson's stock went waaaaaay up for his endorsement and the way he handled the clinton wrath. It was very unseemly of them, but that's the way they work apparently. He's a GOOD one for Sec State or Sec Education, but not VP. I don't think he's as in tune with Obama as Edwards. (Yes, I know that won't happend but that's what we need here).

I like Richardson's backbone! I hope he can deliver NM to Obama. And I hope AZ shits on mccain. It COULD happen and I'd be deeeeeelighted.

"cupcake" and Chuck Todd still in the lead on my tot board

Gravatar I don't think Richardson is likely as VP, but I agree that he might make a great Sec. of State or another stint as UN Ambassador.
But this post sprung a thought to mind--how about Max Cleland as VP? Undeniable defense creds, former Cabinet experience, and it would show the wingnuts that you can smear a man, but the good ones keep coming back to kick their ass again.

Gravatar Cap, I think Cleland is a good man, but he lost his seat in his home state of Gawgia. Even 'though it was a vile political hatchet job by the asshats, it's not a good thing to have on your resume' for higher office.

Gravatar Richardson for VP?

Well, if you want to be sure that this time, the GOP slime machine has plenty of material to work with that is easily verified and looks really bad even if you're not a temperance-crusader/prude...great call.

Otherwise, find a politician who enjoys whiskey and sex as much as many people (including myself) do, who also has demonstrated a record of ever having resisted either one.

In any state with a functioning fourth estate, he'd be selling used cars.

Smart guy, great one-on-one, Bill Clinton style mistakes for similar reasons.

Gravatar No good. He'd have to shave, and that would be sad. He rocks the goatee.

He can be Secretary of State. All manner of facial foliage is acceptable there, otherwise how do you explain John Bolton?

Gravatar No.

First, we really, really need Bill Richardson to be the next Secretary of State. His leadership style is exactly what the diplomatic corps needs after eight years of Bush. SoS is the second-most important position in the next administration and Richardson is the best person for the job.

I've heard the rumors from Santa Fe, too, but a bigger piece of baggage is Richardson's tenure at the Department of Energy. That would play into the Republican's attacks on Obama's judgment. Like it or not, the security problems at Los Alamos started under Richardson's watch.

Next...

Gravatar Bill Richardson? No thanks.

This pissed-off Asian American has not forgiven him while Secretary of Energy in caving to political expediency in firing Wen Ho Lee for downloading some files to his laptop that the CIA director got a slap on the wrist for doing the same thing, then having the gall to state, on national TV (60 Minutes) that he did that for Lee's own good?
