I originally ended up at the original News Blog from the now-defunct Twin Cities Reader editor's anti-war blog, and the guy who now does Norwegianity would fill in for the editor-guy occasionally.

Occasionally? After a couple of months Steve Perry was posting about as often as Clay Shirky. I also wrote the unsigned front page blog that became The Morning Communiqué.
But that was then and this is now and it's hard to escape noticing that the A-listers all seem to be on the same listserv lately. Good stuff, but I don't need five takes on the same story.
The Group News Blog was a nice find and I'm glad I bumped into Sara at YK and then followed her Orcinus link over here. Youse guys do nice work.
And it's very nice to see Steve's work continued on here, even if you folks don't swear as much as he did.
Oh, and in honor of the day, arrrrrgh.

Jesse, Motherfucker is one word, not two. And I should know, it was my official tire factory nickname from 1973-1982.
But it's always cute when Army brats cuss. ;
(Oh, and if you want something else to cuss about, AFTER you pass my Sitemeter numbers, and AFTER you eclipse my Technorati rank, I'll still have a PageRank of 6 -- nyah, nyah!)

Mark's been a strong supporter of Orcinus over the years, and we've sent him a bit of love in return (and owe him more, frankly). Wege is a prime example of everything a regional netroots resource should be.
He's also just good people. There was a little core of people I spent recurrent amounts of time hanging out at YKos (Hubris, littlest gator, and Terri from Tokyo, Spocko...), and Wege was one of them. Among other things, we sat together at the John Edwards breakout session, which was memorable on many fronts.
We all need a little Viking in our lives. Or, in Mark's case, a great big one. (The man darkens doorways, in more ways than one.)

Thanks Mrs. R, but there are NO small Vikings!

Oh, and Loveandlight -- thanks for remembering. I just get a little testy when I think of Perry.
CP's old editor's new project is [drumroll] going to be called The Daily Mole. No, sadly, not a Mexican food blog.

Here's a newsflash I know Tanbark will appreciate: I guess Hillary has now more or less adopted John Edwards' universal affordable health-insurance plan, which puts her to the left of Obama on the issue, as Obama's plan is not universal.
The bad news is that this may well cinch the nomination for our dear Hillary.

"I just get a little testy when I think of Perry."
What do you mean, Mark? I used to quite enjoy Steve Perry's political writing at City Pages, so I hope you're not hinting that he's some kind of asshole to work with.
Also good was Doug Ireland's CP column from way back in the day: "Clinton Watch" it was called, and as some of you clever dicks may have figured out from the title, it appeared regularly some years ago...

Per L&L re: Tanbark . . . Shilary will NOT get my vote. NEVAH!
Pried from my dead cold fingers, yadda yadda.
But L&L, I'd as likely vote for YOU as anyone else other than Kuch!!! *G*
Or Jesse, or LM, or Mz. Robinson, or HS. Drifty.
Hell, even Tanbark, if we can get him out of the rivers or off the digs . . .

I think John Edwards gets that the insurance companies and big pharma are THE problem. Hillary IS the problem. I don't think his plan is a universal health "insurance" plan like Hillary's is at all. At least not from the speeches he's made. Hil's plan is more of how we got the horrible mess of Health Scare Industry we have have now. I could be wrong but Edwards and Kuchinich are the ONLY ones coming close to defining the problem and offering an actual solution. I could vote for that ticket.
I won't vote for Hillary. I'm a Democrat.

Love'n'light; thanks for the heads up.
Hillary is a mystery to me, or I should say, her support is.
Am in the minority here, when I say, and deeply believe, that she cannot be elected?
I won't even go over the reasons why, again, but I just don't believe she can pick up enough votes from republicans and conservative democrats to win the election. Nominating her will be political suicide. She has shown herself to be as much of a political power-whore as anyone running, with the possible exception of John McCain, who, at this point, is nebbout a gibbering idiot, in HIS lust for the oval office.
AND, she's show an appalling willingness to get in and out of bed with george bush like she was $20 hooker.
Please, Love; you know I value your opinion very highly; speak freely, even if it's contrary to any of this.

Also, I think Elizabeth Edwards, for whom I have a ton of respect, screwed up when she (briefly) climbed on the wagon to diss MoveOn for their dig at Petraeus.
He richly deserves that. Our military has been used like asswipe, from the start, and now all they're being used for, is trying to suppress the sectarian violence that was created by the invasion and the attempt to turn Iraq into our 51st state, AND trying to give bush and the petro-turds enough time-slack to get down to the D.C. bus station and hop a graydog.
I'm at the point where if they don't stand up and say "No Mas!", then, they've become part of the problem, and there never WAS a solution possible to this fuckup.
I think:
Hillary has to win the nomination early, or she can't win it all. Iraq is almost certain to get worse, and it's going to happen in the middle of the campaign. Edwards and Obama will be shaving points like a corrupt NBA team, if they let her get away with never having said that her authorizing vote was a mistake, which means she can't say that the invasion, itself, was a mistake. She's never done that, either, to my knowledge. All she's done is fart and tapdance around it.
And by this summer, ANYONE that can't or won't say that the invasion was a mistake, will be a Karl Rove wet dream, to run against. In fact, Hillary is already that.
Edwards has repeatedly said he was wrong to vote to authorize. And, as crunch time hits, and the brits pull more of their troops out, and as events in Iraq become totally unspinnable, he's going to have to repeat it.
What's Hillary going to do then? If she finally comes around to saying she fucked up, it will only be because the reality-turds are landing on her head. Which is precisely what is happening to bushCo. How courageous and leaderish will she look for doing that?
If Edwards and Obama don't both rip her for her late discovery of more of her "inner anti-war self" (which she has only done as events and the polls push her into it) we'll know they've become nothing but stalking horses for her.
Speaking of her need to win it early, moving primaries to an earlier time plays into her hand. If she hasn't won it by the super-primaries, she'll be up shit creek, and it will be the end of her candidacy, I believe.
As I posted; I saw Edwards here in Georgetown, S.C. some weeks ago. I liked what I saw. I think his outrage and anger at what bush and the republicans have done to us is as real as...Alecia Nugent's wonderful, edgy, incredibly honest, bluegrass/country singing. (Had to get that in...:o) MyrtleJune, if you can figure out how to post "Muddy River" for the folks here, you will OWN my ass, and the rest of me, too. :o)))
But I digress. Edwards is real. His populism rings true, to my ear. He aint perfect, but he's the best of the lot, IMHO. i LIKE that he's made a bundle sueing corporations. THIS is a "negative"???
He just about has to win Iowa, because Hillary is a shoo-in in New Hampshire. If she strings wins together from the gitgo, she can start shreing UNITY! And then we'll all be faced with supporting a candidate who has taken a lot of her talking points straight out of the bush/Rove playbook.
For true, I don't know if I can do it.

John D, sorry I don't have your email or I'd reply privately. I think you're talking vintage '90s Perry. This century? Not so much, imho. I think he bottomed out when he ripped on Wellstone just before Paul was assassinated.

There aint a breath of artifce or fakery in her singing. Not a syllable.

WRT Hillary:
I think it was recently that she adopted a healthcare platform similar to Edwards, like yesterday or the day before yesterday or something like that. I *so* don't want to see her get the nomination, but if she had a real healthcare plan, she may very well get my vote.
