Just emailed the post/link to my local Senate District Democratic GOTV committee with a note that it might be a good idea to email it to all our caucus delegates and alternates with a message to pass it along to anyone who could benefit from the link.
I suggest that any readers who are involved with their local Party do the same... getting out the vote needs all the help they can this cycle. I have always thought that the best way to combat Republican voter suppression is to support Democratic GOTV efforts.

Just got an email from one of the GOTV experts... the gist of the message:
"This may prove very useful for building an absentee voter initiative in the heavy same-day registration precincts. If there are increments in November substantially greater than the turnout and same-day registration numbers we experienced in 2004, anyone who votes absentee will avoid the same-day registration lines that inundate the polling stations at peak times: 7:00 - 9:00 am and from roughly 4:30 to the end of the voting window, which may have to be extended to 9:00 or even 10:00 pm.
There were 4000 same-day registrants in 2004. If that number rises to 5000 or 6000, the logistical capacities of those polling stations will be seriously overwhelmed. The goal ought to be to assure that no one stands in line more than say 15 minutes. Not three or four hours."

Many states have permanent no-fault absentee registration so you can receive ballots for every election not just the big Federal ones.
Washington makes vote by mail very easy and is moving toward statewide VBM for all elections just like Oregon.
