Gravatar I just finished watching the supposed 'gaffe' when the AP reporter referred to Osama bin Laden as "Obama bin Laden," with the Senator standing right beside him.

I think Sen. Obama should get into the comedic spirit of the campaign season and start doing the old whipped cream pie in the face to anyone who gets his name wrong from now on.

Gravatar Well one of the AP's new board of directors is Rupert Murdoch so I have to assume this sort of thing is encouraged. It also looks like Nedra Pickler just got lifetime employment assurance so keep those "Is Obama Patriotic?" stories coming.

I think if Obama is able to win coming out of a media environment so poisonous to his campaign and so ebullient about the campaign of John McCain, then not only will the American people have won but the corporate press will be handed a defeat of monumental proportions.

-Riiight...Obama does exactly that.
Then watch the aftermath...

Hillary Clinton:
"I'm sure you all saw Senator Obama violently attack a reporter today.
He is simply out of touch, and he is a violent elitist, attacking a media representative and by extension, all media in this country."

John McCain:
"My friends, I'm sure you all saw Senator Obama violently attack a reporter today.
He is simply out of touch, and he is a violent elitist, attacking a media representative and by extension, all media in this country."

U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis (R-Kentucky):
"That boy's hand does not need to be holding the creme pie,(.)"

Gravatar Admiral, I also believe, like the movie "Simon," that all elected officials need to wear clown noses and pointy hats so we can spot them.

Gravatar Anyone else ever notice that these "gaffes" - or hatchet-jobs like the most recent TeeVee debate - immediately BECOME the news? Does anyone really think the negative response to ABC wasn't fully anticipated - that that wasn't their real intention all along? Heat on ABC is heat taken OFF Bush & McCain.

This is an intentional maneuvre, which serves more than one purpose: it both degrades its target & serves as a distraction from other issues. Simply put, if you're busy spending your time getting into a lather over "bittergate" or "Obama bin Laden" you're not looking into some of the nastier international activities the REAL elite is engaging in. The "gaffes" are a vital tool in making damn sure you never do.

When you hear someone blathering talking point gibberish, try throwing some disturbing facts their way - at least a few will bother to start thinking. Progressives need to learn how to prosyletise without seeming smug - we don't need abstract victories, we need converts. The more the merrier.

Media - Viewers/Readers = Roadkill

Tabloid culture needs an audience to survive - it's time to cut its air-hose.
