about damm time.

they seem to be wakeing up, perhapse eyes are opening, perhapse the goveremnt will weather the storm that is comeing.

I am more and more hopefull that the comeing revolution is going to be bloodless. there still soem old gaurd on both sides that can umm up the works, but the wave may jsut overwhelm them with out shots needing to be fired.

Gravatar TLG,
Thanks for the heads-up on the mega vote site. Should prove to be useful.

Gravatar Let's wait and see how this pans out. Maybe Bush won't leave the White House smirking and with a swagger in his step after all. It would be nice. (And about the only comeuppance we can reasonably expect for the evil little troll.)

Gravatar :-D A good day from Congress finally.

Bonus: It also takes away their talking point about certain dem voting "present".

Gravatar It's welcome news, & long overdue. Hope they can make it stick, & turn the heat up even higher on the New Crusade. The sooner it ends the better, for Iraqis & Americans alike.

Can Reichsfuhrer Bush leapfrog over this kind of situation with either an emergency measure or a signing statement? Someone who knows, please say "NO" - I want to see him sulk some more like he did over the FISA amendment.

Gravatar Tim Holden (BDD-PA17): Yea
Tool.

Gravatar "Maybe Bush won't leave the White House smirking and with a swagger in his step after all."

From your mouth to g*d's ear...

Thanks for such GREAT news.

Gravatar got to send off big props to bob filner for this one.

Gravatar I'm happy with Bush keeping his smirk. It'll only make him look even more ridiculous in just a couple of years, post 2009. Bush won't 'age' well. 2011 and he'll hit Universal Pariah, universally.

Gravatar "The fear of job-loss in the GOP reaching a pretty fevered pitch..."

And, we aint seen NUTHIN' yet. :o)

I promise you guys, 3-4 months from now, it'll be 50-50 that Cheyney and Bush go under the bus. :o)

I swear, that's why Dick Lugar has dropped off the face of the planet. The GOP told him:

"Sit your ass down on that end of the bench and keep your mouth shut, in case we need you late in the 4th quarter."

And, my 2c, they are going to need him. :o)

Gravatar Dick Lugar.......... President Officer Dibble.

Now, who's Top Cat.

Gravatar Chalk one up for the naive among us. The US isn't leaving anytime soon. Hate to break it to ya'.

Gravatar Sean,

Another summer with 120 degree heat in the shade in the sandbox.

You better bring those cool shades and some camelbacks. And don't forget your SPF 30 sunscreen.

Oh wait...you aren't going to serve your country in it's time of need? I heard we are going to be there for years. Boots need to hit the pavement. Where are you soldier?

Gravatar Yeah this is good because the Republicans think once again that this will cause people's heads to explode.

The last time they did this was Kucinich's highly privileged motion to impeach the Vice President. They thought debate ON THAT would make Democrats look BAD.

These Republicans are so out of touch you don't know whether to laugh or cheer at the trouncing they will get come November.

Gravatar As a New Orleans citizen, my Congressman is the Hon. William Jefferson, the $90K in the freezer guy, who's frantically trying to delay his corruption trial until after November.

So whenever I think -- like with this Iraq funding thing -- "Land 'O Goshen!! I need to write my congressman and tell him to ....." Well, then I remember he's ol' Dollar Bill, and congressional pages probably have more clout then he does.

I so wish he would just go away.

Gravatar This was a hell of a 72 hour period.

1) HRC won WVA. Yawn.
2) Edwards endorses Obama. VP. Done.
3) Delegates flock to Obama.
4) Bush fucks up in Isreal speech at Knesset.
5) Tweety smacks the SHIT outta James.
6) Buchanan embarasses hisself on Tweety.
7) Tides reverse, hell freezes over as Tweety comes out of reptile closet. Go Figger.
7.5) ) KO TRASHED Bush for golf giveaway. What fucktitude on the part of that scum. Golf for lives.
9) CA Supreme's support Gay Marriage. HUGE!!
10) GOP loses more seats in Deep South!
11) Senate late at night refutes FCC ownership rulings. INCREDIBLE!!!
12) Dolly Parton comes out against Howerd Stern, and it MAY be the end of THAT asshat!
13) Joe Biden (traitor from hell Lieberman clone) even jumped Bush's ass over PURE BULLSHIT!!

I mean, it's 12:41 am here in Sac, CA, and I'm thinkin, it's been a HELL OF A PHREAKIN PROGRESSIVE DAY on the planet.

Ya know?

Harumph.

Gravatar then came the big buzzkill.....bummer.

Gravatar Larue forgot: Hillary Clinton stood up and gave Bush hell over his anti-Obama campaign speech in a foreign parliament. Thereby confounding at least one of her nuttiest backers, who was gloating at how she was sitting back and happily watching Obama's campaign collapse. Well, something's collapsing all right, but I think it has been misidentified.

Gravatar tlg,

100 republican congress-critters voted "present" rather than yes or no on funding.

it's in your link. but to be clearer the greedy old parasites vote went down thusly:

56 against.

2 for.

132 present.

9 not voting.

Gravatar Ought to be fun to watch Crybaby Boner (sorry, Boehner) and his minions weep and snivel their way through this.

Gravatar I been sayin' for a while now, that the moment Obama gets the case ace,and locks on the democratic board, we'd get some goooood side bennies, and they're starting to come. :o)

Larue's excellent list is just the beginning. Anything could happen.

But; watch the cabinet-level rats, particularly, Rice. If she stays the course to November, she can get a honeybucket scow named after her, instead of a VLCC. :o)

(Very Large Crude Carrier)

:o)

Gravatar Go out there in the vast fields of the Internet and find one Electoral College analysis which shows Obama beating McSame.

You won't.

The other way around....Obama=Dukakis

Please put the Kool-Aide down now. Time is running out.
.

Gravatar "100 republican congress-critters voted "present" rather than yes or no on funding."

That would be the cowardly blowhard contingent of the House.

A good day yesterday, with one thumb in the eye apiece for the social conservative wingnuts and the profiteering war whores.

Gravatar umm A. Citizen...Mydd...one of the biggest hillary lovefests, obama can't possibly win groups on the net lists obama as ahead of McCain...

please stop lieign it jsut looks pathetic now.

what amazes me is that you seem to despise the blue dogs, and yet blindly fallow their leader....jsut pathetic.

Gravatar I guess someone on Capitol Hill finally looked at all those polls telling them that people wanted to get the heck out of Iraq.

Forget the Rethugs we need to go after the Dems who chickened out on this one.

Seriously I understand that the election has taken over everyone's minds but there are plenty of Obama and Clinton supporters on that Nay list.

Give 'em hell!

Gravatar Unfortunately, I think Sean has some shit-logic on his side, about hanging on. For all the wrong reasons.

It isn't (as he so fuckheadedly believes) the moral, intelligent, thing to do, to stay in Iraq.

All that serves is to allow the creators of this debacle to get out of town and hand it to someone else.

Ad, if we stay past the sell-by date of the NEXT presidential election, then Barack Obama will be a one-term preznint.

BUT (and here I disagree with some good people who think that "Greater Iraq" will improve, and continue to exist after we're gone) I think the idea of an ongoing Iraq is nonsense. The only thing holding what used to be Iraq together, is our military and our money.

Absent the occupation and the $3 billion-a-week U.S. Treasury sugar-tit, partition becomes what's for dinner.

The "Iraq" ethic is bullshit. When we leave it will quickly be replaced by factional greed and lust for power. How bloody that will be is anyone's guess. I hope not too much, but all that's going on now, is that Maliki and the "Iraqi Government", (and, of course, george bush and the republicans) have achieved a kind of tenuous and-oh-so-fragile stalemate via cutting deals with militias other than Sadr's, and by way of our military and their "smart" bombs. Right now, ISCI has the sorta-kinda upper hand, since they, temporarily, are our "friends". And Maliki can point to the relative success of his (and bush's) chosen militias, pushing the Mahdis' back into Sadr city where their turf can be carved and whittled into more or less managable (for now) sectors.

They're also having some success at putting Mosul into Fallujah-lockdown, although, expecting that that particular mole, along with all the others, will stay whacked without our military to enforce it, is a piece of idiot-logic that practically no one wants to talk about.

I.E.: Preventing the green zone from becoming, 24-7, the world's largest and most expensive mortar training range, is going to take American troops, in perpetuity. The notion that the "Iraqi goverment security"; AKA the OTHER militias, are going to go barrelling into Sadr City to go after the Mortar-men, WITHOUT our troops and our helicopters to back them up, is laughable.

Up north, the Kurds give fuckall about Greater Iraq. They just want to keep tightening their control over Kirkuk and nibbling away at those big "government" fields up there, and, to keep the Turks off their asses while they do it. The best way to ensure that is to give the next preznint good basing opportunities in the north. That will solve their problem with the Turks, instanter.

But the equation is simple:

Our military's retiring to the Kurdisn north, and to Kuwait, etc. is going to result in a big increase in Iran's power and influence. The only way that can be stopped is by the continued outlay of astronomical sums of our money, and dribs and drabs (If they're lucky) of our troops' blood, as SOMEONE maintains a big military presence IN Iraq, to make the factions and militias behave in ways that are not too inimical to American corporate and political interests.

Of course, sustaining this stalemate is the best that bush and the warpimps like Sean can hope for, to help them perpetuate the (steadily- being-recognized-by-the-voters-for-what-it-is) bloody myth that the cluster was worth fucking, in the first place, and is worth continuing to fuck, now.

In fact, on some conservative blogs there are the glimmerings of a kind of perverse honesty, rearing it's insane little head:

"Yeah, we sure fucked up, but we fucked up SO bad, that NO ONE can straighten it out; and when we and goatboy dump this misery in YOUR laps this November, then, if you don't pepetuate the loon-crusade, we're gonna do everything we can to blame YOU for the denouement. HA! HA! HA!"

Which, of course, is precisely Sean's little chortle.

And that's the mission for the democrats, with a little help from the republicans who like the money and perks of being in congress, between now and November.

They need to steadily prepare the american people for the truth that there is going to be no happy ending for bush's vanity war. And, as much as possible, they need to force he and the GOP to, at the least, help them start to end our part in the bloody chaos-theory petrie dish that they have created in Iraq.

That's what that House of Reps tug on goatboy's leash, yesterday, was.

Obama and the dems HAVE to force the republicans to get on board with a fixed withdrawal date, etc.; and if they won't do it, then they need to cut their political legs off, in the general.

It shouldn't be too hard. :o)

Gravatar A. Citizen, if you think that Barack Obama is the equivalent of Michael Dukakis; and that this election year is the equivalent of that one, then send me your email addy, and I'll tell you when the next meeting of the Flat-Earth Society is coming up.

:o)

Gravatar wengler - we all thought they'd be trounced in '04.

Don't count you chickens before they hatch, eh?

Gravatar "Go out there in the vast fields of the Internet and find one Electoral College analysis which shows Obama beating McSame."

This is why, win or lose, the Dems must pursue a 50-state strategy in the general election. 2008 is the year to demonstrate conclusively that the Electoral College is both broken and un-democratic (not to mention un-Democratic), and to keep in a Congressional majority that can do something about it.

This means giving Obama a decisive nation-wide majority win in the popular vote, minimum 5% margin (something Hillary would never have come close to with her Dukakis-like unpopularity). Then watch what happens if McSame wins the electoral vote.

Gravatar IMOS; we had no candididate to trounce them WITH.

John Kerry bent over and spread his cheeks, for the Swiftboat short-arm inspection.

Gravatar A. Citizen - Then its up to YOU to make sure that "dukakas" shit doesn't happen. Obama is NO dukakis in any way shape or form. Just stop it. Get out there in alllll the 50 (plus the msm) and fight! Put down the pubbie maps and charts because we're getting ready to design some NEW ones.

"Stop with the negative vibes, Moriarty"

Gravatar Apparently, some of you just can't read. You just assume to know how I "feel" about the situation. My/your opinions have no effect on the reality of Iraq. My original comment stands without a response. To wit, handwringing is not a response.

Gravatar Sean, was I handwringing?

I thought I was taking a shit on you.

:o)

But, if you feel that invading Iraq was a MAJOR fuckup, based on lies and distortions; then tell us that.

And then we can talk about why you think we should stay there.

:o)

Gravatar "Apparently, some of you just can't read. You just assume to know how I "feel" about the situation. My/your opinions have no effect on the reality of Iraq."

All I know is that, given your serf-like fatalism, you and Ivory Bill Woodpecker should have a lot to talk about over the back fence between Nader-ville and Paul-town.

Gravatar "My/your opinions have no effect on the reality of Iraq"

And there, you're as wrong as two left feet. :o)

The cumulative effect of our opinions is gathering like a class 5 wallbanger in the mid-Atlantic.

You'n Bill need to batten down the hatches. :o)

Gravatar Sean...here is your response, much like every empire that has tried this occupation in the past we will come to relise very quickly that we jsut can't affored to stay any longer.

We are leaving, very soon. the only question left is if we can get out with some dignity, or if we will be running with our tail betwwen our legs while our rear gaurd is draged naked in the streets.

Gravatar "We are leaving, very soon. the only question left is if we can get out with some dignity, or if we will be running with our tail betwwen our legs while our rear gaurd is draged naked in the streets."

My guess is that, in his personal life experience, Peasant Sean is a lot more familiar with the second scenario than the first.

Gravatar sean is just doing what authoritarian-follower personalities do- trying to assuage his anxieties by indulging in a little authoritarian aggresssion by proxy. He can no more help it than my last car could help stalling out on the freeway.

The great achievement of the Internet: besides securing the world's pr0n supply, it has made it inescapably clear how lasting are the effects of bad toilet training.
