Fear. Plain and simple. Fear of The Other has driven every nativist and anti-immigration movement in this country since easily the time the first major wave of Irish and the first Chinese came to this country.

This post is incredibly pathetic. Not only are you useful idiots, but you also reveal a deep psychological need to stress how multicultural you are. And, you're completely ignorant of the facts surrounding our current system and why we have such a system at all.

"We are from everywhere. And we are Americans. And hopefully after today we will have a nominee who will represent all of us."
Including those who can legitimately be defined as TRUE native Americans.
That editorial is definitely worth reading. Furthermore, the opportunity costs America has incurred due to the anti-immigration bigots and the broken and DHS-addled immigration bureaucracy over the past 8 years probably range into the 10s of millions of dollars, if not more.
America has become a very unfriendly place to the sort of innovators, investors, hard workers and even tourists it used to welcome. We'll be paying the price for shutting them out for years to come.

Y'see, Rosali, you just don't understand that people like TLB need to kick out folks like the student you listed. Can't have all those curvebreakers cluttering up classrooms and making his kid fail out--after all the Coach said he had to get his GPA up if he wanted to stay on the softball team. Nope, can't have them smart, ambitious people running around. All them snotty furriners is doing is rubbing the idea that "meritocracy" is still around in the US in the face of folks who know better than to do stuff like read books and stuff. Like the Vietnamese and Cambodian valedictorians who were at the head of EVERY class that I was in during my four years of high school--who do those slanty-eyed pagans think they are, anyway, daring to like, be smarter than your average hard-working, disability-check cheating Joe Sixpack!

I sent on a copy of that news article about the deportation to my email group. I got three replies: one saying how horrible it was, one saying how horrible it was and "I wrote to my congresspeople and the Rep from Fresno", and the third from a Conservative, saying they should have been sent home years ago then they wouldn't be able to say they have put down roots here and you can't make exceptions for anyone or you have to for everyone.
Quite the range of responses....

my response to conservatives is
"then make an acception for every one"
I have a sure fire solution to illigal imagration...make every single person that wants to eb a citizan a citizan...then cover teh rest with workers rights laws and manditory livign wage and then open the border....no mroe illigal imagration problem...
just look at teh problem econamicly...there is an infinate amount of supply (cheap/free labor) with high demand...nothing we do will stop the demand with money (large corperations) from gettign at the supply (cheap workers) a much better solution is to dry up the demand (make the workers not as exploitable as before and the demand gose away)

Moonglum,
The back half of such a plan (or a similar amnesty) would be jail time for any employer found with more than 3 illegals working for them. That would spare small mom n pop shops who may not really care if Jose or Maria have papers as long as they can work the night shift, but put the hurt on illegal building contractors, greedy landlords who hire them, etc.

Moonglum -- Your spelling has outdone itself this time.
The normal phrase is "make an exception", an exception being something outside the rule. But "accept", the root you used to make the word "acception", is the kind of accept that means recognition and welcome.
